I spent the day making the Comet run again. Then pulling it up on ramps so I can remove the exhaust and get it ready for headers.
After I reinstalled the alternator, ignition system and hoses...and set in a new battery, it fired right up and idled like a champ. A champ with a leaky carb...the square in front with the arm coming out of it drips like crazy. No smoke though so that's awesome.
It sounds decent like it is but I want duals like a real car. I am of the opinion that all muscle type cars should have headers and duals as part of their definition. I will muscularize this Comet, wait and see.

they do... except when i changed to the doug thorley headers and 3" single exhaust, my 40 series became deafening at 2,400 rpms.. no other rpm offered 102db.. weird.. and thats crusing rpm, so its annoying, and makes my ear ring.. im gonna have to go with a 3 chamber to keep from getting a ticket here.. ive been eyeing up the borla though.:drive:

I'm using a set I purchased from a member here. Hedman longtube hedders. Elite series I think. Very nice. Should be a snap to throw on like it's nothing right?

yeah my local dragstrip has a 100db limit, so my next system will have a xpipe to quiet it down a bit.

Good grief it's noisy. I had to cut the pipes because the clamps were rusted solid. I cut the system out just before the factory "Y", then I cut the "Y" off before the clamp and the rubber straps holding it up. Then one more cut in the wheel well bend and it came out easy. Took 10 minutes.
I still have enough pipe left to work with til I can get a pair of mufflers and some down turns. A buddy has two turbo clones that are 1x2 outlet so I was thinking four downturns just to be different. 45 the pipes to come out the side with the mufflers diagonal, then one short and one long downturn.
Neat Idea...really I was just tired of seeing it sit so I am taking the chance to do whatever I can to keep it a work in progress and not just lawn ornamentation.
