Yeah, there are pluses to either design. Smooth welds and polished it would look sweet. I like the cut corners a little better because it seems to match the contour of the core support better, like in this pic from this thread http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=49098&highlight=aluminum+radiator&page=2 :
Humm... Maybe if you dropped yours down one notch it wouldn't look as tall. Or did you have to mount it on that slot for clearance below? I don't know if that one would even fit under my hood... :16suspect
Won't mount up going to any other holes. I think being that it's a Comet, the hood has more clearance, but not sure. I crawled under neath and looked at the space between the hood and the top of the radiator and there isn't any. I was worried about that and closed the hood gently and checked before clicking it all the way. I think I have about 1/2" between the cap and the hood.
Thanks for the info. I'm ruling that one out for me. I guess what I need to look for is a 2 row, cut corner one. Thanks for the help, Blu!
I really like the looks of the cut corner radiator. Is it listed on ebay or do you have to order it from Champion?
Griffin makes a direct bolt in. but its not cheap. Been running one in my Sprint for 7 years now. Never gets over 180º even in summertime idle conditions.
The three row from champion fits under the hood of my Mav just fine. The only problem I had was with the lower tank size. I had to clearance the lower cross member to have room and am not able to use the drain petcock. This problem is supposedly solved on te newer versions.
I keep seeing all of the radiators made specifically for Mavericks, (including the OEM ones) and one thing they have in common is tanks on the top and bottom. Vertical flow. Most other radiators are horizontal. Is there any advantage in this design, or are they just making them this way because they're trying to keep the design similar to stock?
