Should I save it? 72 Sprint

Well guys I have the opportunity to buy a rolled Sprint for relatively cheap ($700), but I'm just not sure. It was rolled, but the damage isn't as bad as I would have thought. I may check it out in person this weekend. Part of me says I am crazy and I should just run, but another parts says to buy this rare car and store it until I can think about fixing it (I have a few projects in the works already). I guess if I did buy it and it's too much of a project, I could recoup costs by parting it out, but it would be hard to part out a pretty high optioned Sprint. What do you think? What would you do? Good: Sprint, factory 302/C4, AC, PS, 67XXX miles, runs good (apparently), CA car

Bad: Rolled in the rain a while back. Needs dr's quarter work, possible roof replacement (hopefully just needs to be re-skinned). Interior is decent. Would need a full resto, as most do.

I don't know Corbin. I've looked at some more projects and passed on them as I need to start finishing some of my other projects too. Course, you're a lot younger and have a lot more time than me to work on them. It's definitely worth it from a parts point of view.

 

I'd offer $500, take it or leave it. More then likely a parts car, but I'd have to look it over in person to know for sure. The "beam" (if that's what you want to call it) that runs above the windshield is definitely caved in, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be straightened or replaced, if you wanted to go to that extent to save it. Pillar behind the door is probably going to need some pulling as well.

hears what you do. buy it! its an original. check to see if its a strait car. if so restor it. if the floor and unibody is not strait. take a good body and make a clone with the parts and cut up the original body for panels and sell them to recoup some of your money. its that simple.

 

If you're wanting a Sprint and don't mind putting in the work, buy it.

It looks like it's going to need a roof cap and a partial quarter replacement at the very least from the pics, but I've seen much worse fixed.

It's all up to weather you think you can fix it or not.

Even if it's not savable, it's got enough good parts on it to recoup your investment if one of your other projects needs them.

 

its a sprint, i'd fix it in a heart beat if i that was near me

 

nice car but i would have to say that i would part it out..... or maybe take it and another car and "re-body" it yup, that's what i would do

 

I have seen a lot worse fixed, and just about any thing can be saved if it was rare enough, I.E.:worth enough...when done. but I would buy it and change every thing over to a good shell (re-body it) have a sprint with less cost than trying to fix that body shell....as long as when sold its sold as a re-body I dont see why not to keep another sprint around, but parting it would help keep more around as well...just depends on how much you want to spend/keep that car.. good luck with the project! no mater what way you decide to go.

 

Great candidate for a top and tail! Cut it through the windshield post and through the floorpan under the rear seat (or somewhere thereabouts). Very easy repair. There should be plenty of good cars out there with good top and tails to do this with. We used to do those in the body shop all the time. The insurance companies have gotten away from it but for an older car, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Save that baby.

It's not nearly as hard as you might think. We have taken many late model cars and did this repair in a weeks time...paint and all. Come on Jamie...try it, you can do it!

 

Boy thats a tough one Corbin, it has parts that you have been looking for and has value in it for parts. Fixing it would set you back some $s and time.

 

Thanks for all the opinions, guys. I'm still on the fence about it. I think I'll contact the guy again and see what develops.

Ray: The top and tail idea seems pretty cool, but way beyond my abilities. I would like to see that done.
