Ok guys, it's time for me to get a carb. I'll tell you about my setup and see what ya'll think. I am building a 331 with 8.7:1 compression, 174 Weiand supercharger that I am going to be mostly commuting with. But I am gonna drive the out of it. I currently have an edelbrock 600 (#4106) carb but would like to give Holley a try. Also, to make things more interesting I am considering E85 . . . there is a gas station about 4 miles away from my work that I can fuel up at, open 24/7. I was initially gonna go with water/methanol injection but I prefer to deal with E85.
Sorry if this is off but... I don't know much about E85 and the few minutes I took to read about it don't sound good to me.
trick flow hydraulic roller camshaft .542/.563 224/232 (112) and the heads are AFR 185cc with 61cc combustion chamber. I don't know too much about E85. But I know it's somewhat good for the environment, it allows me to run a little more compression without detonation (which really probably will equate to 40-60 horepower tops) but really I just don't want to have detonation with the supercharger.
can I get a 750 that will run E85 and have an electric choke and have vacuum secondaries? I don't want to lose out on the drivability. And I think from what I have read starting an E85 engine isn't always easy.
Corn on the cob---corn in the carb both are good You might want to check out Quick fuel carbs, they are a step up from a Holley with all billet stuff, not that much more cost wise or you can have a carb built for your application by Prosystems from what I hear they run great out of the box but they will set you back about $ 650.00-$800.00 With all you have going on with your ride you deserve to put good stuff on it
thanks Mike, I'll look into those 2 as well. There is a place here called San Diego carbs, I spoke briefly with some dude named Gary. He was saying I would need 2 carbs, one for the street and one for the track which I have no intention of doing. And he also was recommending a 600 carb for a 331 with a 174 supercharger, so off the bat I have my doubts about them but I'm gonna go down there and talk to him in person to get more info.
You need the same amount of air as normal - you have to increase the fuel flow on an alcohol carb. The size has nothing to do with the amount of fuel it will flow with a given amount of air. Get an E85 carb to run E85.
Definitely will look for an E85 carb, but I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a company or brand to go with since I will need something that will also work with my roots supercharger.
I'm on my second year with E85 as a primary fuel. After doing a lot of research and testing myself, I ended up ordering a complete kit from Heath Daniels at raceone85.com to convert my carburetor. It's worked out very well, So well that I just got done building a high commpression motor around it. I dropped the new engine in yesterday and just need to finish fabricating my headers. The best rule of thumb is to plan on a 30 percent increase in the amount of fuel needed. In my case my existing fuel pumps and fuel lines exceeded what was needed. Most if not all the information you will find is based on converting Holly Double Pump style carburetors. Although I'm more geared to race applications the same principles apply.
