I have been a Maverick fan for over 25 years. I owned 2 Mavericks in the 1980s and 2 others in the past 4 years. I check out the various maverick websites/forums/photos from time to time, and I'd like to think I have a decent knowledge of these cars.

However.......I have never seen fender skirts on a maverick before today, but today I saw some 26 year old dude with a 1970 Maverick (that he's only owned for 6 months) with fender skirts on the rear wheel wells. They didn't even look removable, and covered more than half of the rear tires. He thinks the skirts are factory installed, but I am convinced that he is grossly mistaken. He had the original bill of sale from 1970, and it showed a "WSW" wheel option for $30, but of course a quick google search told me these describe the type of tires and not skirts.

I guess this could have been a dealer-installed option, but again everything I know about mavericks tells me otherwise. It actually looks like home depot-ish aluminum mounted to the car with bondo. It doesn't even match the paint.

So I ask all of you, the knowledgable maverick community: did maverick fender skirts ever exist and if so, was it a factory option, or dealer-installed option, or even an after-market thing? Has anyone EVER seen skirts on a maverick before? This guy says that he has, once before.

I am 99.9% sure that these never existed and someone simply "customized" this car.

    Thanks.

I'm sure they would have been aftermarket. There was a company that made fenderskirts for all kinds of cars. Name of the company is/was FoxCraft. I owned a set of skirts for a 65/66 Mustang several years ago. They were made for the car but nothing I would ever use. Fenton was selling skirts at least as far back as the late 50's and I'm not sure when they stopped. Google "Foxcraft fender skirts" and you should find more info.

I think it was Foxcraft not Fenton.

Yup, I remember seeing fender skirts for Mavs/Comets in the JC Whitney catalogs not too long ago. I haven't looked recently though. Here's a picture of a Mav with fender skirts, among other things...

It looks like the rear quarter was extended down on that car. Other than that you could unbolt the rest of the crap and get it back to it's former glory. It's just no tht e right car to dress up with wide whites and skirts, those belong on the full size land yachts.

I have a set. Doubt I'll ever use them but they are a good conversation piece.
