It wasn't really fake, but it wasn't just some random thing like they made it out to be. More than one of the car owners worked for the suppliers for the show, or they were related to the owner of one of the companies. I loved the show when it was on. Plus sometimes, they would do stuff to cars, and not even mention it, like the Comet convertible, they installed a Mustang II front end, and never said a thing....
I wish there was something even close to that on TV these days...Unique Whips is coming to SPEED :vomito:

I don't think there's anything I couldn't legally do to mine. It's registered as an antique and as such, requires no inspection or insurance (I do have that ) and the registration gets renewed every five years instead of yearly... I love Texas! :yup:

Hmmm...I didn't know we could do that...I will have to look in to it.

Mine is just registered as a "regular car" but old enough to not have to pass emissions, only the yearly safety inspection.

Side markers are not necessarily covered by the federal law - they might be called "appearance" items instead of "safety" items. If they are called "safety" items from the factory then it is against federal law to remove them. Otherwise it is ok.
Not the same with bumpers and belts though - they are "safety" items and must be on the car and functional - as per factory specs.
Remember that state laws are superceded by federal law unless the state laws are more stringent. You may never get a ticket for any of the infractions and some are not well enforced but it is still illegal.
Not to say that my car is 100% legal, but if I get the ticket I will get you guys to help pay it, right?

How about outside mirrors, how many of the cars done on that show don't have mirrors when they show the finished car? In this state ( where they film) you have to have at least one mirror on the lefthand side
    CDMV code 26709.
