    I have a brand new bumper still in the wrapper with ID #'s but these old numbers don't seem to be valid anymore. I need to identify it so I can offer it for sale.
    I have pictures but have no idea how to get them on this forum?
    Any help or suggestion welcome. My husband is a retired (do they ever really?) car junky and I'm trying to help.

    Yeah, that's not a Maverick bumper. '67-'68 Camaro maybe?

    Don't think it would be a camaro bumper. It does look like it has a ford parts sticker on the wrapping...... Matt

    Going by the "D22", my guess would be Pinto, but the rest of the number does not make complete sense. The "17757" would be correct for a bumper.
    There should be one more character between the two quoted sequences ... I would like to see a "B" or a "Z" there.

    Yeah, Now that you mention it, my vote is for a pinto. Can see the similarities between this photo and the pics above. - Matt

    Bumper

    Here are the definites:

    Ford factory new... my husband remembers buying it for a friend's Maverick. Can't remember for sure if car then got wrecked, we lost touch with the friend when our circumstances forced a move from NY to Maine.
    Bumper came along with everything else.

    Looking again at the part numbers I wrote down...

    "Control WC 011" (space) "B"

    "Part # DZZ17757A

    NOT D22... but D "ZZ" - my writing is a little hard to read.

    I really appreaciate all of you letting me chat with you about this! Great group!

    That part number makes me wonder if they subcontracted the bumpers. I had the same problem with some other stuff ... non-standard part numbers.

    If you look at the Parts Interchange section of the board, I have a part number decoder that I found online posted.
    http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=42973

    If you leave the first two characters off of a regular Ford part number (the decade and year), then "D" could be Maverick, the first "Z" would be Ford Service Parts, the second "Z" would be an extra unknown, and then the "17757" falls in the range of bumper parts ... perhaps a replacement part made after 73, when they changed to a bigger front bumper.

    I have a Crash Estimating Guide from 1979 and they still list the original Ford part numbers in it ... It may be that a dealer at that time would have been able to reference the service replacement part from that number, though.

    It might be best to measure it and compare it to a known Mav bumper. Mustang and Pinto would be differing sizes.

    Excellent resource! Thank you for sharing.
    So looking at this info: might I interrpret the label info as:

    "B" = 1950's design
    "D" = Maverick 1970-74
    "Z" = Ford parts
    "Z" = ????
    "17757" = Bumper
    "A" = ?????
    There is a date on the label - "4/20/1976 shipped from Teterboro, NJ"

    Looking at that date reveals just what pack rats we are, garage sale long overdue!

    Thanks Jeff,
    Christine

    I still vote Pinto. If you look at the pictures, the early Maverick small bumpers come down at an angle from the center point and then kind of flatten out. The Pinto bumper just kind of angles down from the point to the end. The picture you have of your wrapped bumper shows that it doesn't flatten out towards the ends like the other photos of the early Maverick bumpers. - Matt
