    Hi:
My name is Richard, I’m from Mexico. First of all I want to say hello. This is a picture of my Maverick 1973. I really love the Mavericks but recently I have had some problems.

My Mav has overheating problems. I really don't know if it is a 289 or 302.

It doesn’t have thermostate. But I really dont think that it can be the problem.

The radiator cap is 16Lbs. Before it had a 7Lbs and the water overflow a lot

    I have a V-Belt setup like this.

I Checked the Water pump. It is clockwise. But I have a question. The impeller looks like this. Is it ok for a Clockwise water pump?

Well, I thougt that it was not correct and put a impeller like this. The original impeller didn't have rust.

The overheating continues. The Temp goes to 220°F . I checked the hoses and the spring of the down hose. I tried only anti freeze. I tried only water.

I cleaned the radiator with a profesional. He disassembly and cleaned it.

The fan has 7 vanes and it is correctly installed.

I´m sure about the overheating because when it has 220. I cold the engine and the water that I put boils.

I only ride some kilometers and it overheats. The car starts easily and has the original stock.

you need a thermistat. the coolant moves to fast through the system to work correctly. try that first.

Ditto, you need a thermostat. 220*F is warm, but not overheated.

A blown head gasket letting exhaust in the cooling system is my guess...or the head gasket(s) are installed backwards blocking the water passages.

    Thanks

    Thanks guys.

Today I went with the mechanic and believe it or not.

He bent the fan vanes and now the temperature keeps 190 °F- 200°F.

Definitely I´m going to buy a thermostat.

Yeah, I thought to check it but fortunately I went first with the mechanic.

So, Is the impeller correct for a clockwise water pump?

    Thanks, :)

Best way to tell is to compare it to another known pump (std or reverse rotation)

What kind of fan did he bend? How many blades?
I am having some heating issues w/ my new setup. I have 16" elec fan on Champion Alum. radiator, 180 stat, Jeg's 175off/190on controller. The car runs fine when moving but when idling I start to see the gauge climb.

I still have my stock shroud, fan and 160 stat. I was doing better w/ that as far as idling goes. Im thinking abt going back to my engine driven fan. I wud like to stay w/ the elec. setup. I will play w/ it and see if I can correct this issue.
If I can't work it out to my satisfaction I wll substitute a Flex-O-Lite and probably leave the alum radiator in place.

What is the name part number of the fan? The cheap Mickey Mouse electric fans are a joke...not enough cfm. Might wanna spend some money on a real electric fan.

It´s a 7 blades fan. It isn´t a special fan. The problem was that it didn´t produce enough airflow. The water didn´t cool.

You can improve the airflow bending the blades a little.

I really don't know what fan it is. It might be a MM fan I got it free from my brother. Im going w/ some kind of shroud no matter what fan I wind up using.
I was in the bone yard last week; did'nt have any Taruas at that time.
I think If I get a Tarus fan I wud have to upgrade my controller relay & fuse. I don't think it's up to 140amp at startup 40ms. BTW - What wud u consider a real fan? I think im going w/ a new fan I really don't feel comfrotable w/ a fan of unk orgin, specs or age. It's not like engine drv fan; as long as the belt stays on ur OK. If the elec motor quits ur SOL.
I have seen u say to others on the forum "U GET WHAT U PAY FOR".
For the most part I agree w/ that philosophy.
Anyway, thanks for ur input.

I'm running dual 10" Perma-Cool fans on my Falcon. Each one is wired to its own relay. Hayden, Be-Cool, Derale just to name a few are good fans.

That's a neat setup. I get it when u say gud fans -Ur right.
Im lookin at the Flex-a-Lite 160 @3000cfm fan/shroud combo that almost covers the entire rad. Made in USA.
U have a lot of air bypassing the fans. Do they do a good job? What deg stat u using? What controller -adj or fixed temp?
Thanks for the pix. I might consider something like that.
