If those are the shorties then no. At least put on a set of downpipes.

Yes. You could gamble and try to drive it down there with open shorties. But i would only do it if its close.

It will blow the valves.I have already done this once but on a diffrent car. Just wondering what engine is in the car for with my 393 i had to run shorties and they was no way to get long tubes in this thing. This was even after i notched the shock towers. Know i have done it right by putting in a mustang ii front end which made a lot of room for long tubes. You will also take a chance of setting this thing on fire with shorties.Either way be careful man laws are made to be broken, whats a ticket.

OK, I am not here to start anything but.............................. Would someone please explain to me why it is a BIG NO NO!!!!!!!!!! to run a car without downpipes, aside from the point of setting something on fire.

Lots and lots of people do it every day without any problems. For example, had a friend of mine run a Digger for 5 years without ever hurting a valve, and the pipes on that thing were about 24" long. Mud trucks run the pipes out the hood, I can go on but you get my point.

Is it the fact that the ol wives tale about the cold air rushing in to the valves and warping them? Well I don't know about you but I don't think cold air would be very cold very soon after you have ran it with shorties for very long.

    Just my :2cents:

Lets hear some other opinions on the subject.

first do a search on those headers. Youll find pics of them. And the collector points the exhaust right at your floorboards....

My point EXACTLY! There are guys running "zoomies", which are basically just a pipe to route the exhaust away from blowing in your face lol, and they have no issues. I know a couple of guys who run them at the track on basically stock engines with NO issues whatsoever.

I'd drive the thing to the exhaust shop and be done with it!
