i put a 302 in my maverick it has a rv cam bored .30 over engine totally rebuilt i have a holley 600 cfm 4 barrel carb on it and and some shorty headers how much power do you think this engine will have and what kind
Just for sake of argument...stock heads good for 150 hp. More power will need more flow. I could be wrong, but want to get the conversation going.
but wouldn't the exhaust bored out pistons new camshaft add more power than just stock and it is a 4 barrel holley 600 cfm carb
you can have a 1050 dominator carb, cam with .750 lift, and 4" exhaust, 11.5 compression, but if the heads won't let the air flow in and out freely enough, they will limit your power to whatever they will flow. That is why you really need to choose heads, cam, carb, intake, etc. all ahead of time, so they will be matched and work well together. that said, I don't think unworked stock heads will get you much over 150 hp. Swap heads, have them machined, etc, and open those intake and exhaust ports up, bigger valves, and get much better numbers, depending on what heads you have.
what pistons are in it, what are the cam specs, are the heads stock and so on. It could vary based on a lot of things
Thanks for the help guys i have another ? i put a water pump with drivers side inlet on it and now i cant see timing marks to adjust ignition timing and i don't know what to do without going through a bunch of trouble. i mean i did it by ear but i really want to get it just right
some balancers have timeing marks for pointers on both sides of the motor. get a pointer for the passenger side. they bolt on to two of the timing chain cover bolts. you should be able to find one in any salvage yard on any 302 in any car from the 80s or newer. if you dont have the timing marks on the balancer then order some timing tape for the diameter of your balancer. put the crank on top dead center by lineing up the orignal timing marks and pointer. now put the tape on with 0 at the new pointer.
65-68 Mustangs with a 289 and a two barrel came from the factory rated at 210 HP. That is under the older-style horsepower ratings. I would hope that with the mods you have made, you would be somewhere in the 230-250 HP range, but more important than that, with the RV cam and overall conservative nature of the build, it would have a lot of power "under the curve"... not peaky .... much more torque where you need it for a street motor.... Fun to drive. Pretty much how I built my 351. After a turn behind the wheel of my Comet, while it still had the original 3:00 gear in it, my buddy said it best ... "not the quickest car I have ever driven, but by far, the most responsive ... I'm doing 90, and I think I still have 3 inches of gas pedal under my foot.... this car is just loafing" .... I think it is going to put a big grin on your face driving it.
