Ok Guys, I need some expert help. I installed a new one barrel carb on my wifes 250 six today. Car was running beautiful idling perfect and took it out for a test spin. She ran great (The car not my wife) started home and she started running rough again and stalled at the stop sign. I got her started with a little help from the gas peddle. Got home to check and see if the choke was sticking and gas was pouring out from the linkage that goes through the bottom of the carb. It's leaking right above where the PCV valve tube connects to the manifold. I don't know what's going on but it acts like it's flooding the bowl andleaking at the linkage. Anybody have any ideas? Stuck float...Try tapping on the float bowl with the handle of a large screwdriver to dislodge the float. Or...Debris stuck in the needle/seat sticking it open allowing the flooding situation. Same proceedure as above but,you may find yourself pulling the top off the carb to remove the debris/dislodge the float. Good luck!!!
the float could have sunk. it might have a hole in it. is the carb brand new or rebuilt? the needle and seat could have goten debrie stuck in it allowing fuel to flow past it all the time. sounds like the carb needs to be taken apart, inspected carefully, cleaned, adjusted, and reassembled.
if it's an autozone/o Reilly carb then thats your problem. had several from them, the floats arent set right (at least the ones for the mavericks straight six that they sell) and jets are completely different on mine. i just rebuilt the stock carter and ran a manual choke and it ran better and used less gas then the autozone carb. parts store carb got me 9mpg (tuned best of my ability) compared to 19mpg with the carter
Ok It's a new old stock Carb never installed. Came wrapped in plastic and attached to cardboard in the box. My old carb did the same thing. Could it be something else? Thanks, Bigsmo
i bet that there is some crud or something in your fuel line going to the carb that is breaking up and geting stuck in the needle and seat. do you have a good fuel filter before the carb
with two carbs doing the same thing I would say that there is sediment in the tank. check float and needle, new filter and try it again.
Also... If carb is NOS(OLD!) The gaskets are probably dried out along with the rubber piston for the accellerator pump. You may be tearing it down for new gaskets/piston anywhoo...Good luck man!!!

I wud buy a carb kit for it and just go thru the whole carb that way u can eliminate a lot of the possible things mention in this thread. I wud also think if u have a filter anywhere b4 the carb inlet it,s unlikely trash in the bowl unless it was there prior to putting on the NOS carb. Single barrels are pretty simple - depending on ones skills it shud'nt be a major project.
When I install a new or rebuilt carb I always flush the lines and install a new filter. It only takes one piece of anything to mess up a carburetor.
Thanks MoJo, Yeah they're easy to rebuild I rebuilt one and so did my wife. Maybe that's what's wrong with the other carb? Might just be Crud getting into the needle valve and seat. If I get this figured out I might have a spare carb. I was hoping I wouldn't have to take it apart but here goes another one. Thanks Bigsmo
The only way to know what's going on inside is to take it apart. PERIOD. Personally I never had a lot of faith in most rebuilt/reman things from the BiG BoX parts stores - But that's just me. As far as carbs go, I'd rather put a kit in it or buy a new one, if available.
Well I took the Carb apart and it was full of old gasket material and rust sediments probably from my Gas Tank. Cleaned it all up and installed a new filter and what do you know it runs great again. I guess i'll have to pull the gas tank and have it cleaned if the filter won't help. But you guys guessed right. That's why this forum is the "Best"!! Thanks everybody, Bigsmo
