Bobby, I had to start reading the thread again. I was thinking that you must be crazy thinking I was going for a Mav
I like the stang! Ive been looking for one for my little brother since he likes them. But they are so pricey! I can get 3 nice mavericks for the price of a mustang shell too bad he just loves his mustangs.
i paid 4400 for my car, and i f'n love it. Talked him down from 5500, but thoese preachers... they can really be frim about a price.
Naw Blu, I know Horseballz [Gene] from another board I'm on. I knew that you hadn't come to your senses yet!
Target price as descirbed in your first post---$2k. Being careful how you spend the upgrade money will leave you with a car you've got a good chance of recovering all your money on when or if ever the day comes. Sounds like you know the reliability of the inline sixes. I like em even with some of their shortomings.
I happen to like your car's shade of blue. The signature picture looks great. I am planning on a dark blue for mine, but your blue is nice also. The stripes.. not so much. In my opinion, your shade of blue is classie. So to me the stripes blemish that. I am also a vinyl top guy.. Your blue looks good even on top tho.
UPDATE, So here's the short (well... maybe not that short) story: The guy who owns this car is now out of the country for 2-3 months but has authorized his buddy/room mate to make a "deal" with me. He assumed it just needed some gas to get it started to drive (WRONG) and is trying to hold at the $3000 mark. I went over with 5 gallons of gas, a few tools, 10 feet of fuel hose and some jumper cables. The car has been sitting for several months or more with a partially removed/destroyed locking gas cap and what likely started out as a gallon or so (+/-) of gas in the tank, the gauge reads empty, but does move from it's "off" resting position. I'm guessing they lost the gas cap key and after running the tank almost/completely empty and couldn't get the cap off (I don't think either of them knows which end of a screwdriver does the business) so parked the car. I got the gas cap off and poured most of the 5 gallons into the tank (gauge didn't move, likely a gummed/seized up sending unit) and poured some of the left over gas down the carb and the engine fired right up with no knocking, ticking or smoking, several times but would not pull gas from the tank. I disconnected the fuel tank hose from the fuel pump (the inlet of the pump looked a bit rust or maybe varnish/orange-ish colored) and hooked up my fuel hose to the pump and stuffed the other end into another 5 gallon can of gas and primed/started engine several/many more times and it still would not suck gas. but engine sounded pretty ok. I told the kid that at the very least, the fuel pump needed to be replaced at about $60 and the fuel line needs to be cleaned/replaced, along with the gas tank being removed, cleaned and or replaced, plus the tow truck to get it to a shop to do it for a cost of roughly $400-$500. The tires have great tread but are old and dry rotted=minimum $350 and being that the car won't run long enough to test drive for brakes, transmission and AC. $2000 is a very fair offer for me to take the gamble. I told them that the car is definitely worth $3000 running with everything working and drive-able, but when you subtract what it needs, its only worth $2000 or less. I'm pretty sure that it's not quite as bad as I'm hyping to them to be. I'll keep you posted. Gene
I would also make sure to check the cowls , same procedure and what your looking for on mustangs (garden hose). I would say your right on your pricing, I would just play it out and see how it goes, seller will probably come around after a bit.
