The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Its easier than it is to bake a pie. Theres two choices. To use a conversion kit like petronix sells. You basically remove the points and install the brain of the system in there. Then its just simple wiring. I think its like two wires? Now the next method is what ive done on 3 cars already. You swap over to a duraspark setup. You can get it from a donor vehicle(75+ mavericks have it standard). You get the distributor, the coil connector. And the ignition module. Theres more wiring involved but its still very simple. Theres also thousands of write up online. Ive done the duraspark system for as cheap as $20 using junkyard parts. The Petronix Kit will run you about 80, with a new coil itll come out to around a hundred or so. Now if you wanna do the duraspark conversion new it ends up being around the same price. OR about fifty bucks less if you decide to use a used distributor. And with the petronix kit you also have to reuse a used one. I love the duraspark system, its never failed me yet.

i bought the Accel kit from summit thing works great i still have to go back and regap my plugs though. its also a good time to replace plugs, wires, and distributor cap. i bought a blaster 2 coil at the same time the coils only like 45 bucks and the accel kit is 60-70

Pertronix is nice and simple and smooths things out nicely. Still real happy with it too.

If I was starting all over again I'd like to try the Duraspark route next.

How old?? The early distributor, 1966 and earlier, is a Load-o-matic and you need the correct carburetor to work with it. The 170-200 distributor will not fit a 250
