I saw those numbers too and was wondering if those were a curb weight, with fuel and spare tire. Also I think those were for a 6 not a V8.

Several reasons for that. The #1 is the front steering is lighter duty than the rest. The gas tank drops in so there is no floor in the trunk. It is really a different car from the rest, and still be the same. And like the 71 and 72 there are no reinforcements in the doors for side impact.

Can't see a Grabber that much heavier than a standard Maverick. Maybe 10-15 lbs for the deck spoiler, and that's stretching it.....

i agree with those numbers being for I-6 cars but hey even with A ALUMINUM HEADED SMALLBLOCK they ar estill light little cars.as far as grabbers weighing in more only things i can think of that add weight is the belly bar .from my experience the grabber hoods also weigh more than flat hoods .you can also add 2 ounces for the stripes..LOL

less insulation, no ac, no power steering, bench seats, column shift, small brakes (9"), small rear axle, six cyl suspension parts are lighter too, etc. I could definitely see a couple of hundred pounds.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
My local newspaper did an article on mavericks and they listed the weight for a 74. It was 2781(I6) 2844(V8). Heres a link to the article: 74mavarticle_original.jpg

I always thought the V8 weighs 65 more pounds than the 6 cyl...not 63. Now I really feel like a fool. :slap:

You have to add the weight of an ignition pod to the 2501 for the 69.5 cars :biglaugh:

For what it is worth, I took my 74 to a junkyard and put it on the scale. With me in it, and carrying an extra set of slicks, full toolbox, near-full tank of gas, and my 200 lb butt in it, it scaled out at 2980.

This is a 74 with one lighter 73' door, small bumpers, and a 5.0 installed.

So 2800 lbs plus or minus.

Or WAY minus with less gas and without all the extra crap I tend to carry around with me.

I just took my 72 2 door to be weighed. It's got a 302, cast heads and intake, with nothing but a racing seat for me for the interior, it came to 2600 with me in it. Pretty impressive IMO. Of course I only weigh about 135 pounds so...

WOW!!! The interior plus "what" makes your 72 400 lbs lighter?

I know my door with the cross brace in it is a good 50 lbs heavier than the 73 door without it. I have full interior for another couple hundred lbs, max.

I wonder what else is lighter about your 72?

Can't be 50 pounds. Here is a '75 door complete with glass and arm rest and it tipping the scale at 74 lbs. I know it takes 2 people to hang a 72 door on a Comet and the door weighed more than 25 lbs.

Good thing I'm not a hardcore drag racer. But back when I was drag racing I weighed my car at the track. Without me in it, with half tank of gas it weighed 3210. I've done nothing but add weight to it since I got it. That was back when I had iron heads on it and a c4. It has a 9" rear, full interior, abunch of wood in the trunk for the sub box and amp racks. SInce then I have swapped out the c4 for an AOD and added 7 way power seats from a Lincoln Mark VII. probably added another hundred pounds or so but have aluminum heads now. still probably over 3300 lbs.

Oh, and I forgot to mention I took out the heater/defroster box, but thats about all I can think of that I changed. It's missing the heater, carpet, seats, door panels, ps pump, ram etc, spare tire, its got steel wheels, and it had a full tank of gas when I weighed it.

The front end came out to be 1500 lbs, and the back came out to be 1100 lbs. It's really front heavy, but If I moved my battery to the trunk, got an aluminum intake, heads, and wheels, put in an aluminum or poly fuel cell, plus I siphoned my gas down to about 5 gallons, and took out the headliner, and did a few other things to lighten up I might be able to get it down to about 2400 or less with me in it. That would be amazing!

But... I still have to put in my rear firewall, and my 8 point roll bar, and my sub connectors.
