Does anyone have any pics or design ideas for building a tow hitch for a small bumper mav? I want it to be pretty much incognito when nothing is attached to it. I don't mind the square peg showing but nothing else.

The only ones I've ever seen weld to the rear frame rails, and are bolted into the back bumper, not really hidden, plus they drilled holes in the bumper....

I guess it depends on what it looks like. I don't mind a hole through the bumper as long as it looks neat.

The plan is to tow a very small unit to put maybe 2 wheels and maybe a few tools in to take on long excursions to places like AZ.

I had one similar to the one shown in the link back in 75. It would be more than enough for a small trailier like you're describing. Mine didn't have near the hardware that one shows. It had a single steel "strap" (about 1/2" thick and 2.5 inches wide with a "T" on the end that went all the way under the gas tank and bolted somewhere up to the frame or something else in that area. The other end of the strap was the tongue for the ball and was held up by a 10" or so strap not near as that u-shaped thing shown in the picture. It cinched up nice and tight to the bottom of the bumper. Must have worked well enough that I towed my dad's 18' Roughneck bass boat around all summer to the ski lakes.

I have a bumper hitch on mine, but it was there when I bought it. I dressed it up with a genuine "Shelby" chrome trailer ball.:D I figure that was good for another 10-15 HP.:yahoo: There's a pic on my photobucket link below on page four. The trailer I built for my 06 Stang is there too. It'll follow right along at any speed you desire. Ain't gonna tell you how fast that is, but it'll follow at any speed the car will go.

Yeah mine has one of the dealer/factory(probably dealer I dont know if they came from the factory with these on) installed hitches on it too. It has holes that go all the way through the trunk to bolt it in, and there are a few holes drilled into the bumper too, I cant say Im to big of a fan of it.
