Depends on the cam, torque converter (if an automatic) and how high you're willing to set the idle speed.

if you're worried about having vacuum couldn't you convert the AC controls to electronic? I'm getting the vintage air stuff which isn't vacuum controlled.

the ac compressor puts a significant load on the motor. a big cam doesnt allow the motor to have very much power at idle and the load of the compressor could cause it to stall.

The newer style compressors, are the way to go. I know a few cars that have big cams, with Sanden compressors, and they have no issues. I would here it, I did the A/C on them.

The new Sanden compressors have the lowest load requirements that I know of for a piston style compressor and there are several companies that offer conversions for our style ac brackets. If vacuum is an issue, an electric vacuum pump with a reservoir from a 99-07 F250-550SD will work just fine for our stock ac vacuum systems.
