How hard would it be to put a 300 i6 in a maverick? What all would I need? The guys selling it for $500 with a 3spd tranny pulled it from a '65 truck so I'm hoping he'll split the engine and tranny if I ask him. Anyone know how this is done? I assume I would need motor mounts custom? and probably beef up my c-4 since my current engine is a 200 anything else? Is it hard to do? Will hood clearance be an issue? I know swapping in a 302 would be cheaper and I'd get more power off the bat but I love inlines I don't know why.:drive: Any opinions/advice would be fantastic.

Tons of fabrication....not worth it even if they GIVE you the motor.

Firewall clearance will be more of an issue I'd imagine. That is a big engine. :D

Put the 300 in the Stude pickup. If you want something different, look at the Jeep I6 in the Grand Cherokees. Torky engines, has FI, separate intake and exhaust manifolds, should almost be a bolt in......

Yep, it'll be work and I'd like to see it done to see if you can get the front wheels off the ground. Not by me though :rofl2:

Well the engine sold. Not to me which I guess is a good thing won't be tempted anymore. Still searching for an engine swap that I like.

The 4.0 is a good engine(best motor AMC made) but there is very little in terms of aftermarket performance components for it other then 4 wheel drive intended usage.
Pricewise it would be as economical for him to build a 250 then it would be to get performance for the street out of a 4.0...

Then there is the clearance issues with the EFI manifold, especially if he had power brakes, those manifolds are long couple inches longer then the 4.2 carbureted manifolds.... good for torque though..and the next issue would be the transmision, he would either have to go with one of the chrystler automatics out of a 2 wheel drive cherokee, or he could peice together one of the manual transmissions(probably one of the T5's out of the cj7's) with a 2 wheel drive transmission so he could utilize the correct output shaft.
