Is the hub bad or has the dust cap simply been on/off too many times? Or if the center of the cap is smashed in, it will hit the spindle before seating, in which case it needs to be replaced.

If you need a hub, just ask for one in the wanted section. I'm sure someone will have one for you.

the inside of the hub is wore out the cap was no where near tight when i put it in. it would just fall if i took my hand from it.

I see. Well, a new cap is a few bucks. You should replace it anyway if you replace the hub. Perhaps you could get a new cap and see if it fits tight? If it does, replace your bearings and all is good. If it doesn't fit, then you could get the hub and have a new cap for it. Just a thought...

Gotcha. She must have gotten real hot to expand that much. Good luck with getting it fixed. (y)

Some of the cheap aftermarket caps are a semi-universal fit and don't always fit properly. I would try a different cap. You said you put new bearings in; did the outer races fit tightly in the hub? If so, the hub should be ok as long as they fit tight and seat properly.

I'd try a different cap too, before changing the hub. How difficult were the bearing races going in ? That would be a better indication of the heat damage to the hub than the cap would be.
