I want to replace a 1973 Maverick Gas Tank, but internet searches come up empty. Any suggestions?? The car was my grandmother's, and although it has sat for about 5 years, it runs. Just very nasty build-up in the tank. Thank you! ~b
You have quite a few options. Do a search and you will find a conversion tech article to an early style Mustang tank. Or, you can put in the larger, later style tank that is availble yet at auto stores like NAPA. Enter model year 1976 if searching NAPA or other parts stores parts list. Just do a search here on the forum with the key words MUSTANG FUEL TANK and / or FUEL TANK SWAP and you will find many threads about it.
i have bought 2 tanks for a '76 mav. at Advance Auto Parts in the last 2 months. get 2 longer strap bolts and bolt it in...
I did this band-aid fix before on my Falcon back in the early 90’s. The tank lasted 2 or 3 years before it started leaking again. I ended up buying a new $300+ tank. A new Maverick tank only cost $25-$35 more than the cost of having an old one repaired.
