hey all, I just ran across this site a couple of days ago and have been reading and searching nonstop. There is tons of great info and friendly people. I don't own a maverick yet but am in the process of searching for a specific model, but they seem to be hard to find. I am looking for a '72 sprint with the V8. My mom bought this exact car new in 72 and had it through her marriage and her first few kids until they traded it in for a station wagon after I was born. I know this search could take a while and I am willing to be patient. How rare are these cars and are they more expensive than other models? I can't seem to find any that are for sale or that have sold to give me an idea of what I am in for and what I need to convince my wife of. Anyways, I am sure I'll be lurking around and learning.
welcome from the mitten! that's going to be a tough find....but they do pop up every once in a while. there was one on ebay 6 months ago or so... they are a fairly rare model of Maverick, and price depends on condition search the threads for sprint production...you will find lots of great info! good luck.
You could put an ad in the "Wanted" section and see if someone wants to sell a Sprint. Thousands of Maverick Sprints were manufactured but few remain. To give you an idea, I only know of one other in North Carolina and its not on the road.
They made over 15,000 Sprint mavericks, which seems like a lot. But many have been destroyed, a couple pop up every year though. Half the time the seller doesn't know what they have so they can go for decent prices. Besides the visual ques the only way to tell for sure it is a Sprint is to check the door tag. You wanna see "RB" as the trim code. Here's a neat article on them: http://forum.legendaryfordmagazine.com/pdf/JanFeb/72-77 Print Singles.pdf
Welcome aboard. You are also in luck. The Maverick Comet Club International, Inc. (MCCI) will be holding their 18th Annual Roundup Nationals in Dearborn, Michigan this weekend, July 20-24. You will see lots and lots of Mavericks and Comets, including a few Sprints. You will have to plan and attend. More details can be found at www.MaverickCometClub.org
Thanks for the help guys. I'm beginning to wish mom had bought a normal '72, but it should be a fun search
You can always buy a regular Maverick and make a Sprint clone out of it. There's nothing wrong with that.
I know of one down here in Florida, not sure it is going to be for sale but you never know.... It is sitting right beside its cousins 72 sprint pinto and 72 sprint sports roof mustang.... Its quite the site to see
Welcome, and don't give up your search. They are out there* spotted on recently-but it was not forsale--no surprise!
Thanks I saw that a couple of days ago but didn't really see any public shows. I didn't want to be the weird guy that just happened to pass by the hotel on Saturday. Would it be ok if I did stop by it would definitely be worth the trip?
Maverick/Comet guys arent usually like that. I'm sure you'd be more than welcome. If a Sprint doesnt pop up A clone is an option for you. The worst part would be matching the interior.
