OK, I'm fixing up the trunk and I'm thinking that while I'm cleaning up the rust and stuff, why not put in a subwoofer box. My problem is that I'm not sure if that is where it goes. My recent vehicles have stock systems. Can I build the box to fit under the rear speakers and have them play through the backseat?

    Here is what I did:

Note: I no longer have the template...got lost in the mail :(

Putting in a sub really requires measuring volume of air space, reinforcing the enclosure, proper port length, etc. You best best might be to buy a pre-built sub...like a bazoka sub....to put in your car.

Craig has some gud advice. However, most speaker mfg's give the dimensions, material list and instructions on their sites - for their subs. I have a 10" sealed in a box I bought to put in my Comet. I have a 8" ported box I made w/ instructions I got, when I bought and built that enclosure for my 8" MTX sub, abt 5yrs ago. I have had both in the trunk of the car - and my conclusion - I like the ported box better, even w/ the smaller sub.
If ur handy w/ building stuff - don't discount the building aspect. If u decide to build - follow the mfg's directions closely or ur better off buying a sys.

I bought the box cuz I was in a hurry to get the sys fully operational and it has a wedge shape. The 8" ported box is rectanglar and takes up a lot more room in the trunk of the car. I made the 8" box for my Windstar van where space is not an issue. If space was not an issue the 8' wud reside permanently in the Comet.

Here's what I did, pretty satisfied with the results. Pair of 8" subs with huge magnets fit perfectly. I cut holes for them in a piece of (I think) 3/4" particle board, covered with foam and vinyl. You can definitely hear and feel them...

i have 2 12" soney xplode 1,200 watt subs with a 2,000 watt amp but it is a little much to be honest if u put a good 800 watt amp on a GOOD set of 6" by 9" speakers you will get all the sound you need i have a all soney system and it will shake my car without the subs on.
