I have decided to go with coil over shocks/springs on the front of my 69.5 Maverick to go with my Mustang II crossmember. Would anyone, that has already gone this route, care to share any part numbers, spring rates and sources from when they purchased coil over shocks for their Mustang II front end? I figure I will have to up the spring rate somewhat because my Cleveland is heavier than a Windsor but that's no problem. I just need a good starting point based on coil overs that others have already successfully installed.

    Thanks, Bob :)

Whose Mustang II cross member did you install?
I would call their Tech Support line and ask them. There are so many variables in your general question.

I guess I should have been more specific in explaining exactly what I was looking for. My crossmember was built by Full Tilt Street Rod out of Colorado and they don't have the type of coil over shock/spring that I am looking for. I like the coil overs that Rod and Custom uses on their set up. They are double eyelet and mount on the lower A-Frame and go up though the tubular upper A-Frame and mount to a bracket welded to the frame rail. I have the proper lower coil over A-Frames and the upper mounts. I just need a mounted shock length and a good spring rate starting point so I can order a set from Heidts similar to a set that I bought for the rear of my car. I called Heidts but they ask for all of this info as these shocks/spring, like you said, have many variables.

Speedway Motors has a great chart that gives you spring rates and such Bob. They also have their own line of MII front ends, so they may have what you are looking for....

Hey Bob, I have coilovers on my RCM front clip. They ship standard with 550# springs for smallblocks. Since I have an aluminum engine, I talked them into sending 450# springs and they're perfect. I would think the 550#'s would be a good starting point for you...

Thanks, Russ :Handshake- A starting point on spring rates is one of the things that I was looking for. Another is coil over installed length between eyelets when mounted. There is a very large choice for different length coil over shocks out there within the same brand, it will make your head spin. "Actionrpm" from Western Pa, greatly helped me with the rear coil overs and they look right about perfect and far as length go. Do you have any pictures of your front coil overs installed?

Thanks, I sure appreciate the help :) I actually bought my rear Heidts from Kennys Rod And Kustom in Ohio. They told me that they would have a matching set of shocks/springs for the front as long as I gave them the physical mounted dimensions and spring rate. I was also told, as long as I don't scratch up the springs, they will exchange them. This is why I want to get close with my "first guess". I know my Cleveland is heavier than a 302 so I'm hoping for the best on my spring choice bases on what you guys would choose for the springs with a 302.

I know the correct way to do this is to scale the car but I don't have access to scales any more.
