I have been looking at different stroker kits and brands I'm just wondering what are fair prices for 347 or a 331 kit with flat top pistons. Some pros and cons between the too would be great too. Thanks for any help
I prefer a 347 over a 331. They cost the same to build, might as well get all the cubes you can. Last 347 I did, about seven or eight years ago, I got a Coast High / Probe kit on sale for $900. Cost almost another $800 for balancing and block work (hot tanked, magnafluxed, bored, decked, cam bearings, plugs, etc) Clearanced the cylinders for the rod bolts myself. Plus, depending on what parts you currently have or don't have, you may need to upgrade your heads, intake, carb, exhaust. Think of it more as a 351 instead of a 302.
Ive looked at all the pros and cons. In my opinion I think the 347 is a great Motor, but I doubt they will last as long as a 331. Id read up about the angle of the rod at the wrist pin during rotation, on both motors. From what I read it seems to me the angle at that point on the 347 is a little severe causing more stress. Myself Im probably going to go with the 331. If I hadnt scored a free Mexican 302 Block Id probably build a smokin 302, but I felt this Block should be a stroker, why waste its potential.
Ancient wive's tales. There were many factory motors with theoretically worse rod angles and they last 100-200K miles. The ultimate, IMHO, is a big bore 347 or 363 using a dart block w/4.125 bore and a short stroke.
Yupp thats a fact. Nuthin wrong with a 347, Great Motor. Im spraying a 150 shot on a 365+ Motor, with the heat down here Im just playing safe.
if your considering spending the money on a stroker, chances are your going to be abusing it anyways. so go for the 347. it will be more torquey than the 331.
I have did some research and found out a few different things. Most companies have changed there 347 kits so you don't have problems. For some reason most people gone with the 331. I'm thinking about the 347 but what kinda cutting or notching to the block do I have to do? Is it something I can do myself?
Yes Michael you could notch the walls for rod clearance but you are going to have to have the block bored anyhow so just let the machine shop do it, it should not cost too much and when they are done they will clean the block good. If you want the most out of the engine you had better think about some better heads
Yeah and like how many girls are really "Natural Blonds" never know till you lift the hood and tear it down.
