I believe I have told you guys & gals before that I am not the most mechanical one here. My mechanic friend has done most of the work on my Grabber, but I'm definitely learning a lot. I have a lot of stuff that I would like done to my car but my mechanic may not have the time. I now have 2 herniated discs in my back and they think one of the areas collapsed and is bone on bone. I am pretty much in constant pain and there are days that I can barely walk, so I can't do anything to the car either. I have a '77 Versailles and I would like the front and rear discs, 9" posi rear end(maybe new gears too), shroud, center console and stock floor shifter installed in my '72 Grabber. I also have bucket seats from a '96 Mustang that I would like installed. The last thing, for now, is I would like the car re-wired(I did it kit?). How much do you think all of this work should cost? Does anybody know of a good restoration guy or mechanic in Nor Cal(Sacramento area)?
You will get used to the back pain after a while - I only occasionally need meds for mine after 7 years. The real problem is when your extremities start to go numb and you need surgery to fix that. If you find a front end shop they should be able to swap the front end pieces at a reasonable cost ($3-400)
Thanks, I hope I do at least get used to it. Unfortunately, I was having numbness in my left leg and I had to be rushed to the ER. One of my discs was bulging and was compressing my spinal cord. They said if it got any worse it could sever my spinal cord and I would be paralyzed for life. That obviously scared the "bleep" out of me. Anyway, they are going to give me more time but it sounds like they want to do surgery. I'm just glad I can still drive my car.
i know your pain, my left leg has been numb for 2 years now. its kinda comes and goes. right arm has a pinched nerve as well, thats been that way for 15 years. i still do all my work on my car, somethings are hard to do. mostly its the under dash stuff that gets me.
Could be up to $2000 to get all this done by a mechanic. How much of this HAS to be done and how much of this is just a wish list? Might need to re-evaluate what all you want to do.
That is around what I was thinking. I have the parts and money to do it so I would not consider it a wish list. I just need to find somebody I can trust to do the work. On my wish list would be the body work and paint that I was quoted $9,000(OUCH!!!!).
get surgery get healed up do it yourself, you won't enjoy driving your car if you are in pain all the time
I know someone that would do it, if you were closer and had more time than the USMC goves him. He's currently at 29 palms. He could use the extra cash too. One extra thing that you will need for the front end conversion is ball joint bushings to adapt the Mav ball joints to the Versailles spindles. Look up "Mustang Steve" for the bushings. As far as I know he was the only source for these bushings.
hope you get to feeling better! baddad, i work in opelousas now, we may have to do lunch or something
