New member, Lifetime Maverick Lover!

I am soon to be reunited with a Fod Maverick. It was my first car, I started working to pay one off when I was 15 years old. It was a 76 Grabber, and I loved the car, but for some reason I felt I wanted something different and sold the car. I regret it and now I decided that there is nothing holding me back from getting another.

I found a 76 that I am trying to buy, I wanted a 70-73 because of the narrow bumpers and hood/grill. The one that I am looking at comes with the 71 bumper hood and grill. Is this the only visual difference between them? I will post a few pics of the one that I am looking at, it seems to be in very good shape without any rust or dents. Let me know what you guys think or if there is anything I should be asking the seller or concerned with? Or what pictures or problem areas I should specifically ask for?











I looked in the classifieds here on the forum and found this exact car. There was talk about it being a Stallion, but how would I know this? I am not concerned too much with this, I just want the look of the grabber, but if it is a Stallion it would be nice to know that it is a little less common.

 

Welcome from Panama City, Florida.....first thing I would check is the cowls, take a gallon of water and pour into the cowl and see if any leaks into the floorboard on either side, if it does, I would walk away, look at the floorboards if you can, and see if there is any rust, open the trunk and inspect the lower quarter panels from inside and outside, look underneath for any rust issues, things like the broken package tray can be easily fixed, but rust, well it can be fixed but is a PITA, let us know what you find out, btw in the second pic it looks as if the front bumper is missing, is it gone or just reflection from the snow hiding it? I read wher it comes with the small front bumper, does that include mounts also? what 71 hood comes with it? flat or grabber?

Like stated, check the cowls and floor boards. Those are deal breakers to most, but anything can be repaired. Every square inch of sheet metal has been touched by someone on this board, so very little is uncharted territory.

To do a complete bumper swap, you would also need the smaller rear bumper and mounts. No biggie.

Not sure about the Stallion, the Stallion experts can help on that point. A Marti report wold provide the factory options it was ordered with.

 

Thanks moneymaker. The seller said there is zero rust in floor boards, but I will check myself. As for bumper, it has both 76 bumper and 71 bumper, just wasn't on in the pic. 76 is on now but he is putting the 71 on for me before I pick up. The hood is grabber good. In perfect shape, steel, but missing inserts, but I already have a lead on those. I will check the cowls for sure. Thanks again.

 

Thanks Rusty, I definitely want the rear bumper too, they look so much better. I'm sure this forum is a great place to find parts like that. That will be in the near future.

what rims are thoes?

 

They look like Chevrolet wheels? Plus the dash has the package tray..I'd have a real good look at the car before you buy it, and make sure it hasn't been pieced together, and is way more work than you want.

 

It has the fuse panel sitting in the lower dash, so at one time it was a 1976 lower dash.

 

Only true way to know is a Marti Report. But....if it has factory flat black paint in the door jambs, inside the trunk, and in the engine compartment, I would bet it is a Stallion.

Make sense since the car car is advertised as a 76.
Car looks decent like the red and black paint,but whats with the black and blue interior? Man alot of colors going on there.I guess it depends on the price.
