So since my manifold is phucked.. I started messing with the wiring in the car.. removed the alarm and other spaghetti that was under the dash..one thing led to another and I pulled the custom gauge cluster the car has.. it seems like the panel is off a montego of some sort.. the odd part is that the tach only has two wires going to it.. so I don't know if it get the signal from the ground side.. so ya that is a gaping hole in the dash.. I hope I can get the gauges to work.. But am now concentrating on removing the evap box from the car.. is there any other studs/bolts than the three that are under the hood? I took one out under the dash that goes to the cowl.. any other hidden ones? they modified the defrost vents and the vent tubes that go to the bottom part of the dash
That looks to be a '70-'71 Cyclone gauge cluster. Those factory tachs operate in series with the coil. If the tach is disconnected, the engine will not run (unless the two disconnected wires are hooked together).
nice.. thank you very much.. would you know how they go.. meaning, I assume they go on the ground side??
As I recall frm doing mine last year -- U have all the fastners out. Be careful when pulling the box not to break the nipple off the bottom of the box where the drain hose fastens. Lift it as much as possible while pulling it frm the dash. I broke mine partially off and had to repair it. The nr 40 yr old boxes are quite brittle.
ok so I DO have them all out?.. the three studs on the engine side and the vertical bolt going into the cowl... the drain has a piece of hose attached to it that goes thru the floor/tunnel of the car.. I already removed that rubber hose and the drain isn't touching the floor.. but it feels like something is still holding it up.. I will try again tomorrow after work.. does the box go into the circle of the cowl?
Holy crap! That's a HOT dash. So it's the back of a Gauge-Pak cluster attached to a fabbed front? bet that was a lot of work.
So this is how it is hooked up in the original vehicle that the gauge panel came out of? I see a red and yellow wire on his pic of the tach, not red and black. Since this isnt in the original vehicle could it be wired like an aftermarket tach, with the trigger wire on the negative side of the coil? Or are these tachs made to be wired inline to the positive coil made differently?
The angled tubes that lead from the front of your dash back to your guage faces - what are they made of - welded in steel - epoxied in PVC etc?
As I recall, u have all the fastners. I don't recall if the blower housing had any fastners to the body of the car. The blower casing is fastened to the heater box. I will check my diagrams to see if the box has any more fastners. I just chk the diagram and I only see the fasteners mentioned previously. the red and yellow wire are to the ampmeter.. the tach does have only two wires and they are red and black the whole thing seems to be made out of fiberglass.. but i will look at it closer and take better pics.. the guage panel is just glued to the fiberglass... I got the box out today.. it was getting held up buy the heater tubes as they were splayed on the engine side, so they were getting caught on the firewall.. I feel kind of bad for gutting the car.. the PO must have spent a lot of time making these parts..lol
