So I got an alternator bracket that, as it turns out, in for later model mustangs. I didn't realize this until long after I ordered it and now it's too late to return them. I can't get it to work, so I'm trying to put it together the way it was before. Or get one that will actually work for a decent price. Problem is, I have no Idea how it went together before. I've been searching around the webs and can't find an installation guide or even decent pictures. I have the same water pump as the one in the provided picture. I also need help with the power steering pump bracket, though it looks like it's just a single piece of metal, so I'll just go stock on that. If anyone can point me in a direction that might help or can provide some good pictures or something, it'd be much appreciated. On a side note, if anyone needs said bracket kit, I'll let this one go to a fellow mav guy for cheap. I shelled out $60 plus shipping for it. It's chrome plated though a little scuffed up from when I tried to see if I could make it work, but nothing major. If you're interested, shoot me an offer.
Acc Brackets Here is a picture I took before disassembly. If you have a 302 with PS and AC, it might help you.
Good planning!! When it came time to put all that junk back on the engine I was glad I had some pictures.
Alright. I figured out the brackets, but I have a new issue. A pretty big one. As I was putting on my new water pump, I broke off the bolt circled in red. Now that I'm trying to put the brackets on, I've found this is pretty important for the brackets. I can't even get a new bolt to begin to thread through. Is there anything I can do without completely tearing down the front end of the engine?
Nope, you're going to have to tear it down to get the broken bolt out. No other way about it. Good thing is this will (hopefully)teach you not to over torque those bolts. And use thread sealer on those four bolts that go into the coolant jackets, otherwise they'll seep coolant and fuse themselves to the aluminum timing cover, where they'll get broken again when you go to remove them years later.
