Wow there seems to be a lot of Low Mileage Mavericks on ebay as of late. I sometimes wonder why a person doesn't drive a car? Kinda defeats the idea of having one if you don't drive it. But I have to admit these are cool.
Its like I am in the twilight zone. Haha.

When you are around an elderly population, it is more common to see low mileage older cars.

I was chasing a 1971 Maverick two door that was the same color as my green Comet, always parked in front of a house a few miles from here. One day I noticed that the rear bumper was shoved in and vee'd. I had just scored a really nice rear bumper for my car, and had the original that was lightly tweaked. I thought maybe we could work a deal. Turns out the owner was a woman in her 90s. She and her husband bought the car and he passed away a couple years later. There was only 28K miles on that car. That was a huge surprise because it was sun-faded ... sat out all the time. She said she drove it about once a week. Left my number with her in case she ever wanted to sell it.

Drove past that house one day, and it had fresh paint and a For Sale sign, and the Mav was gone. I suppose the owner was too.

Another example .... I was just in the salvage yard picking parts off of a 74 green four door with only 65K miles on it. It was far too nice to be scrapped. Looked like it was stored in a carport, because it was really nice, except the passenger front, where the sun might have been constantly hitting it. Other than that, it was very fresh and original.

The scenario that comes to mind is that grandpa went to the great beyond, and his grandson couldn't bear driving an old green four door to high school.

I picked a lot of good stuff off of it. When I came back to the yard, someone cut the front and back off of it, leaving only three feet or so in the middle. Probably fixing some Rust Belt car. :thumbs2:

    The last one says:
FOR SALE IS A VERY NICE 1973 FORD MAVERICK RDO MODEL(LUXURY DECOR OPTION( WITH THE RARE 302 V-8)

Was RDO an actual term? Never heard that before...

My Maverick only has 33,241.3 on the odometer..................that's when it was turned into a race car in 78/79........................and has spent the last
33 years tucked away in a garage................does that count?

I agree with the elderly if the odometer hasn't turned over.

I got mine when my wife's great grandmother passed away. She bought it new in 73, drove it to church and to the store, and periodically to her daughters house 30 miles away. Then she ended up in a nursing home for 15 years and the car sat in her garage. Then she died, car moved to a barn for 2 years before I convinced them I wanted it. It had 55,000 on it.

My grandmother lives in Leisure World in California. A retirement community. LOTS of old cars, sitting in garages, never getting driven. Lots of LOW mileage cars.

See it all the time here at work. Until a year or two ago we had an 87 Horizon that came in here with 9000km on it.
Thats about 400km a year if my math is right.

Yea, it CAN happen... About ten years ago my Dad gave me a '72 4 door Chevy Impala he bought from an estate sale for $500.00. Car had been garage kept and had about 12,000 miles. The lady's s son bought the car and drove it when he was on leave from the Navy, then died in an accident at sea. Someone had obviously been taking some sort of care of the car 'cause Dad drove it home about 450 miles the day he bought it, no problems. I drove it awhile then sold it to help finance a return to school. You could actually watch the gas gauge needle drop if you kicked in the gas. Not a sudden drop due to gas shifint in the tank but a slow, steady drop that did not reverse when you got off the gas. But man that car would fly...

That 76 is a cool looking car....and I usually don't like the big bumper cars.

I like the white 73 with the pinstriping. Has a cool old school look that you dont see on mavs very often. Needs more v8 but would be a cool car to cruise.

The thing everyone is forgetting is these are old cars that have been sitting for long periods with minimal care and maintenance. A mid 70's Maverick or Comet with 70K miles isn't going to be nearly as nice as a late 2000's car with the same amount of miles.

Once a car is "restored" or redone, it doesn't matter how many miles were ever on it.

^ Yes and no. It all depends on how it was stored and maintained. I've seen some as good as new, others very rough. My car has 45,000 miles on it but I treated it bad as a teen and it was stored outdoors under a cover for many years so it needs quite a bit of work.
