has anyone ells had bad experience with the mustang guys? they seem to get along with me until i mention that my car is a maverick. then they start to pick on the car.i can only hope they are not all like this. what's up with that are we frowned upon in the car community? i mean i catch more grief with this car than i do with my 4 door 55 chevy wagon what the heck! ( come to think about it no one has ever said any thing bad about the 55 and its patina salmon pink!)
lets see what some of you guys have to say about this and our little cars!

I'm also a Fox body (82 Merc. Capri RS) owner, and belong to a Mustang forum.

The guys on the forum LOVE the Maverick pics i post, and can't get enough of it.

I think the early Mustang guys may not feel the same.

I think we're like the the Vega to 1st Gen Camaro guys.

I'd rather be the only guy at the cruise w/ a Maverick than pull up next to 7 other 68 Mustangs.(y)

Too bad for them, they're missing out!!!

Just remind them, anyone can build a car from a catalog, plus they'll be pissed when people walk past their Mustangs to look at your Maverick.
Happens all the time, they walk past my buddies Mach 1's and other assorted cars to see mine, so now all the guys just sit behind my car at cruise night, or car shows.

My exp. with Mustang people has been mixed...Purists who think there S!@# dont stink and those who like mavs/comets but...You will find that in allmost any car culture anywhere...its the Jocks VS the Nerds sort of thing. I shut a mustang guy down once for turning his nose up at my Sprint, when I told him how mustangs make good parts cars for mavs and my Sprint has mustang frt end parts/door handelds etc on it...LOL... The guy was speechless. Welcome to the society for red headded step children.

I'm not sure, but I might be seeing some snobishness from some Mustang owners. I mentioned in another thread that the Mav received the "Sponsor's Choice" trophy in the first show put on by the new local all-Ford products car club. When the Mustang owner, normally an enthusiastic guy, handed me the trophy he wouldn't look at me or say a word and not one of the almost all Mustang owner members has said a word either.

Could be because they think the Mav wasn't the nicest car there. I'd agree with them on that, but hey, the sponsor gets to choose whatever car he wants for whatever reasons he has.

No mention of the two trophys that were awarded in the after-show posts on the club web site either, which seems kinda strange. I'll go to one more meeting and see what's up but if they're going to look down their noses at the Maverick I'm gone.

You should meet some Shelby owners. My 68 is a plain J code Mustang fastback that someone made into a Shelby in the late 60s/early 70s with original parts from a wrecked Shelby. Most Shelby owners turn their noses up at me and my car. I've had them tell me I should sell the original parts to people that actually own Shelbys. They've made accusations about my car being built out of stolen parts.

I can't help but lol at some of the things posted on the Shelby forum though. I seen guys with money buy them and ask how to start them. Then you have others who want concours cars and spend $1500 for a genuine horn switch or $2500+ for concours correct exhaust.

Funny thing is most hate Carroll Shelby. They think he's an a-hole.

But maybe us Maverick owners look down our noses at Pinto owners! :biglaugh:

To make a long story short: I really don't give a $$$t what the Stang guys think. They don't have anything invested in my Comet -- I care less. PERIOD...

Its real simple. They have a boat load of cash invested in that Mustang. I park beside them at the show or cruise night. Guess whos car gets all the attention. Its happend numerous times. Its really funny to watch.

Not all of us Mustang owners are royal jerks, but I have to agree that a good many are. It also seems that the earlier the model year and more exotic or rare the car is, the worse the owner acts.

I happen to own a 1968 Mustang 6 Cylinder Coupe and am the former owner of a 1968 Shelby. I can appreciate the hard work and dedication it takes to rebuild ANY car, reguardless of the make or model even if I don't care for it.

I just tell people that act like that: "Have fun trailering your useless car from place to place, I'm going to enjoy DRIVING mine!" :drive:

I own a '69 Mach 1 and its the same in the Mustang world as far as the talk. Some people will talk if you do not have a big block, or a 4bbl, or if its the wrong color, or if you drive it or not, or if it is stock or modified. There is a special group of people that believe that if its not a big block Mustang, Shelby, Boss its not worth owning! I think I have herd more negative comments about my 351 4V Mach 1 then my Maverick at car shows. With the Maverick its the bumpers. I have found that most of the people that do the talking do not own a car at all they just read magazines. I try to be positive. I love my cars and like to show them. I don't like eveything I see out there but if the owner is happy then I am happy for him. I save my talk for the ride home not on the show field.
