I first saw the term "restomod" in a Mustang & Fords magazine. Their idea of a restomod kinda looks like the Grabber blue Mav pictured earlier in this thread. Kinda looks stock, but not really all that modified either. Just subtle changes (some visible, some not) to make the car more enjoyable/safer to drive. The Mustang pictured looks like a reject from the F&F movies what with the goofy body kit and big wheels. But this style is close to, if not a slightly gaudier version of "pro touring", a term I first saw in Popular Hotrodding (or Popular Hot-Touring?). To qualify for this "trend" you evidently must be able to outcorner a new 'Vette, have double overdrive, turbos, efi, etc. and a lot of money. I saw an article in a recent Hotrod or CarCraft about a '66 Nova w/ an LS engine and 6 spd manual. Car looked like I'd been dragged out of a barn. They tried to call this "rat machine". Leave an old car looking old & weathered, but install a late model driveline. It must only apply to LS engines in old Chevies though as I've seen nothing else like it. Maybe if someone put an LS on a Cub Cadet they'd call it "Pro-Mow".. Instead of trying to keep up with all the "trends" and trying to give everything a name, how about just doing it YOUR way that makes YOU happy with YOUR car. Then instead of trying to catagorize we could just say "hey man, nice car".:Handshake

Resto,Restomod? I just know what I do, for the life of me, I dont know what to call it. What I can say is..when I look at something, I see it not for what it is, but I see it for what it can be. Like the statue of david. It was just a large piece of marble. When its creator was asked if he knew the potential of the stone and if he picked the stone to carve the statue of david, He said No "The Stone Determined its Fate" The stone always knew what it was meant to be, it is up to the Artist to hear the stone. That is all I do, call it what you will. I prefer the freedom of expression, unbridled by labels, catagories and the pidgeon holes of judgment.
all I could really say to all the purists out there who dislike new trends is this. Form follows function.. and if smaller diameter wheels/tires could be made to house 14 inch rotors and still have enough sidewall response and overall diameter to keep wheel speeds down?.. then all the best performing cars made would be using them. But that's not the case for a reason and it goes far beyond "looks only". IMO, if you took that Mustang on the previous page and put 16's on it?.. it would look just as silly as some are suggesting that those big hoops look on it right now. Then how would a car with wider stance and bulging scoops/fenders/ and hood look? Probably like a Lambo with some measly 16 inchers and quite odd in proportion. Which is what it's all about IMO. Proportions. And I'm with the others in the mentality that I want to build the car for what I want and like to do with it... not based upon others opinions or needs. And to each their own in that regard.
