I picked up a fox body console that matches my interior color well. It does have two features I'm not sure what to do with:
    1. the "diagnostic display" (2nd image) that indicates with little lights if a tail light is out and so on. I'd like to take that out and put "something" in there; it already has a digital clock next to the display so If I installed an old school clock I would need to do something with the digital display

    2. the E-brake handle slot. I considered using a fox body E-brake assembly there but I already have the later year Comet foot pedal e-brake and from what I have read it's a challenge to fit a fox body handle assembly in the Mav-Com floor cleanly...(but I will have have to mock up a new e-brake cable placement because my subframe connectors are where the old pivot point was)

So, anyway I'm not getting any brilliant ideas........
does anyone have some creative ideas for what to put in place of the display?
And what about the e-brake handle slot?

Need any indicator lights? I have them for electric fan on low, elect fan on hi, and AC compressor powered. If your car is as noisy as mine, the lights can tell you what's up with some things. If you don't have oil temp and trans temp gauges, indicator lights might be nice.

Fuel pump or ignition disable switches? Remote trunk open button?

Good ideas, I will have an electric fuel pump, and I may need to wire my back up lights separately, plus I have a line lock that may be able to go there...

a fuel pressure gauge is always nice too... and you'll robably even still have room for the line lock switch next to it. :burnout:

If you plan on installing an O2 sensor for tuning that display could be a good location for the readout/controller or a rev limiter/ignition timing controller.
As for the E brake slot...Cover it up with a piece of steel/aluminum and recover the console with some fresh vinyl in your interrior color...Poof...The slot is gone!!! Good luck Dan!!!

that reminds me - I have a trio of Autometers that was going to hang below the dash...I may need to mock that up now to see if it will hit

    Thanks Pete,
no O2 sensor required (old school Holley)...but I like the idea an aluminum strip gussied up to cover the part that raises up to the storage area cover and then mounted in there permanently. The color is a pretty close match to my interior color so no need to recover - just lots of cleaning...

A buddy of mine hooked his Leds to his speakers so that every time it "hit", they lit up.

thanks for the photo; I guess that tells me I won't be able to put the gauges under the dash AND put something else in that front part of the console that raises up.
My interior is all still apart so I couldn't mock anything up yet, but a pic is worth a 1,000 words - thanks

Put a radio in the console and use the factory opening at the package tray for guages.

Are you saying put gauges where the factory radio went? This might be a bad idea...I can't see my radio because of the steering wheel spoke is in the way.

I am also using the later dash and would prefer not to hack into the radio area...

Ah OK. I was thinking package tray dash.

Then I say use the console space for guages and indicators.

    Lonnie,

I "speed read" your build thread but didn't see a reference to what trans you are running. Is it a T-5? I'd like to switch to a T-5 with G-Force or Astro gears and am not sure what tailshaft I need. The Camaro tail looks like it would put the shifter back far enough so I could grab it without leaning forward as my seats are mounted 3" further to the rear...

Get a Lokar Ebrake handle, that can be mounted on the tunnel.

Get you get that last Sunday? I was looking at one at the swap meet.
