Collin and Tim came up in their Mav Tuesday. Jeff came down from Atl.in his.
we had pulled a manual drag link and pitman arm from a '70 a few weeks back for this swap.
we put Collins Mav. on my lift and pulled the power steering stuff off from under the car. then bolted on the manual link/pitman arm and then lowered the lift. from the top side we removed the power steering pump and hoses. swapped out the waterpump pulley and put a belt that Tim had bought for a...nonpower steering '73 Mav... the belt fit perfect...:thumbs2:
    no frontend alignment needed...:thumbs2:
    went to lunch...:Handshake ...thanks Tim...
Jeff, Tim and Collin went home, I took a nap...:thumbs2:

    ...you know it...

Curious. I thought I read somewhere that the gear ratios are different in the steering box ps to manual setups..

How does the steering feel without having changed the box?

Gene, I have a power box with manual steering in my car. The manual ratio is 12:1, the power is 16:1. The only difference is the turning circle is a bit smaller, and the wheel a bit harder to turn at slow or no speed, and I couldn't even tell the difference on that. What I did like is that the steering is a bit more responsive at speed. Hope that helps.

Power steering has 16:1 gear ratio...4 turns lock to lock
Manual is 22:1...5-1/2 turns lock to lock
I think Earl fat fingered the 2 and hit 1 instead

Ok.. These #s make sense to me..
Brings me to wonder which box I have cause my first Comet had ps and the GT has manual. I remember swapping or changing the link but not why or which vehicle..
