I have everything I need to prep my carb but I have no idea what to do as far as timing and what plugs to use ect. Any advice would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks, Elliot.
Most people lock their timing at 18*, I'm using a msd 6a-btm timing master to pull 3* per psi. I have my timing set to whatever it ran good on na. As for sparkplugs I use autolite 24, it is 1 heat range colder than stock. Depending on your boost pressure you may need to run a smaller gap.
I`m running a (gasp!) 600 cfm edelbrock and the kit came with pulleys to run 10 psi but I may try to pull that back to 8 psi I don`t know yet. What exactly do you mean when you say "lock" it in at 18* ?
Locking the timing or distributor means that your timing is always set to 18* with no advance/retard.
I think 18 will be the most you want to run. Definitely lock out your advance! I started with 12 and adjusted up to 15. I'm running about 9.5 PSI boost. Good luck.
I`m sorry if I sound stupid but how exactly do you mod the dist to lock in the timing? also don`t that make it hard to start ? What about drivability and milage around town ? Would I see any gains from running a dist like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MAA-1255104/ or is there a better set up ? I did some reading and learned how to turn my pump into a boost reference pump but as it is I have to run a regulator or my carb turns into a fountain so do I also need a boost reference regulator or ??? Thanks guys !
To answer part of your question here is a pic showing the inside of my distributor. Tacked welded to lock advance. Does not make it hard to start and no drivability issues. Good luck!
