Got my breather painted... Need to try to find the other piece to it, can't remember what it'd be called...anyone know from the pictures below? or anyone have one possibly? I also believe there's another piece I'm missing, I'm not 100% sure what it is either. Looking at cleaning up a little more as well...get some more paint under the hood. Thinking about black for the oil filler cap, shock tower braces, and radiator. Ford blue for my shocks (when I replace them), valve covers...and might do the bottom of my master cylinder...not sure how that would look though. Something to clean up the dirty/rusty look under the hood. Any other advice for making it look neater and cleaner under the hood, trying to hide all the rusty dirtyness. Anybody tell me what the part in the last picture is...And what it does? Also plan to repaint it blue.
Also with my shock tower braces, Is it fine to take those off without jacking up the front end? Or are they needed to support the car? It appears to me like they should be easily removed and shouldnt harm the car if it is sitting still, but thought i'd check and make sure. Thanks
guys take those braces off and leave em off with no other supports when they remove the shock towers so it wont hurt anything to take em off and clean em up. Ive had mine off and powder coated. I tried every cleaner I could get my hands on to get rid of the dirt and grease under my hood with no luck. then I tried spray painting over everything but it still looked like crap. I ended up taking the motor out and had the engine bay sand blasted then I took generic $1 walmart spray cans to it and it looked good as new
A little trick I learned when painting under the hood....if there are small items you don't want to get paint on just use aluminum foil to cover them up. It molds over anything and will stay put without having to tape it down. Looking good so far!
The last picture is a carbon canister that pulls gas fumes from the gas tank, runs them through that canister, and then puts them back down the carb. The small hole in your air cleaner in the second picture should have a nipple on it which would then connect to the canister via a cardboard hose. The hose is part # D4ZZ9D667A. Last time I bought one was about 3 years ago from my local Ford dealer.
Snorkel The missing piece in your pic is called the snorkel. Check with Craig Selvey. He may have one, or an entire breather assembly. craig(at)maverickcorral.com
if I had gone through the time, trouble and expense to sandblast it, there would have been some better paint than..."generic $1 walmart spray cans". ......
dont be fooled by the $1 cans of spray paint. it looks good once its on there and it holds up forever. I just wanted to be able to work on my car without getting grease all over me. my car was an oil pit before now it is nice and clean you can work on it without getting covered in grease heres what my whole car turned out like with $1 walmart spray cans it comes out pretty nice and its cheap coverage until I get my paint fund built up. I talked to the paint shop and they want $2k so I think $1 cans of spray paint gonna do for a while
the thing about it is...all that paint will have to be removed before...good paint can be applied...extra labor = more money...
Black is nice for details that you want to draw less attention to. Go with at least a semi-gloss for clean up. If you use a flat, the first time you get oil on it you will get speckles that don't clean up. ... been there, hated it.
I planned on going semi-gloss...Just using spray paint but it seemed to work fine for my breather...Any advice on what to use? I used rustoleum high heat primer and high heat enamel paint for the breather...that sound like good enough stuff to last a little while?
