    Joe has been helping me get power brakes to fit my car, but his pedal hanger must be quite different from mine. Could someone post pix of what a factory power brake pedal hanger assembly looks like? Mine came with manual brakes and it's not looking good...

    The factory power brakes have their own pedal assembly. The pedal comes down the left side of the steering column. Thats why you cant have a manual transmission with factory power brakes.

    That certainly explains why Joe's brake pushod exits the firewall through a different hole than mine. How difficult is it to swap pedal hangers without removing the dash? Looks like the four firewall bolts and a couple on the dash/steering column?

    Still looking for pix of the power pedal hanger...

    Do you know if the pedal/hanger assemblies are interchangeable? I know my car's firewall does not have the hole required for the power pedal (easy fix) but the concerns are the wiring plug which looks completely different and possibly in the way and the brake switch looks different. My brake switch is factory, but has been "hijacked" to also unlock the converter and run the 2-step rev limiter. Those concerns and the difficulty in swapping the hangers w/o removing the dash. Luckily, my column comes out much easier than a stocker since it's been modded for the RCM front clip.

    What ya'll think?

    The brake pedal assembly (or "hanger") will have to be changed as well. The power disc brake "hanger" is different than a manual brake one.

    It is a straight bolt in deal. Dash can stay in, but the column will have to come out.

    I wrote a technical article about changing over to power disc brakes. Maybe it would help.

    Thanks Craig, I didn't think to look through the tech articles. Here it is if anyone else is interested. It takes me longer to get the package tray out than to remove the column so no sweat there... I had a look at the other article from that thread, on those hanger spacers that were drilled loose and then put back on for the "new" bolt-spacing, why couldn't they just be tacked back onto the back side of the "new" hanger instead of jockeying them into position as was done? Hint: sucks to not have a helper!

    Hey, how important is this spacer plate (circled in red) that appears to be welded to the firewall? Will my manual brake hanger have this or will I need to have one chiseled off a donor car? Or maybe it could be fabbed from scraps? I don't mind building stuff, but with my back problems and laying upside down, my patience may run on the thin side...

    The steeering column can stay in, but you'll need to let it hang down after unbolting it. I did just the opposite on my 77, went from P/B to manual brakes. Then punch the correct pushrod hole.

    That plate is not welded on...it is just bolted on. You will need it...or at least something that "spaces" the hanger out away from the firewall.
