Thanks guys for your input. I hadn't ever tried one of those adapters and only heard vague comments about them existing, but I didn't know if it was worthwhile. It sounds like they aren't after all the effort of clearances, alignments and tuning. I really appreciate the input. So....on to the next question:

What is a good 2 barrel replacement for the 2100 I've got, running at 287cfm? I'm trying to not sacrifice gas mileage too much (currently getting about 17-18mpg on average), have a better choke system (I don't care for the hot air system) and give a little bet better performance. I've seen the 350cfm 2bbl Holley and also the 500cfm 2bbl Holley, but not sure how they'd do for me. Other than another Autolite, are there any suitable replacements for my stock intake in your opinion?

What is a good, budget friendly new 4bbl intake (maybe $150-$175)that will still allow linkages, etc. to line up? I'd rather not buy used for an intake, unless it's never been used.

Check on Craigslist auto parts. I saw a 85 Mustang GT aluminum intake for $40. That's a pretty good intake for a stock Maverick. It has a pretty low profile.

You may even get better mpg with a 4 barrel if you keep your foot out of it.

If your worried about milage use a 350cfm holley 2 brl or just fix your autolite which is what i would do personally

The 500 holley is a performance calibrated carb and out of the box is not going to give you best milage.

The small 6's do not have a "intake" there cast into the cylinder head and there all oem 1 brl's

Agreed, use the 350 if concerned with gas mileage, although it might be worthwhile to try a 500 and replace the 50 cc accellerator pump with a 30 cc unit to improve the mileage. With a stock 302, he really doesn't need the bigger accellerator pump on the 500. That might give him the best of both worlds.

Like said before, I'd rebuild what you've got and save your money for your engine rebuild down the road.

... Unless that plan is a far off dream :p

Holley does not have annular discharge. Get a 2150 and you will not notice any decrease in mileage.
