I recently noticed my car (1974 Ford Maverick 4-Door) was leaking water through the weather stripping on the rear driver's side door frame and made the mistake of pulling the stripping out to replace it. I happened to have some after market weather strips that had a tag saying they were for a ford maverick, but I've run into numerous problems trying to install them. It seems that the strip on the other door is glued into the cars plastic upholster trim which is glued to the car rather than flat onto the body itself (sorry if this explanation doesn't make much sense; I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow). I've noticed the strips are too long for the door frame and will not fit into the plastic U-shaped trim that the other door's stripping fits into. Could anyone give me any kind of advice on replacing the weather stripping for a rear door on a maverick? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
They don't...and nobody ever will. I would say you best bet is: 1. Buy one for a 2-door and make it work 2. Find a used one off a 4-door and replace your old one 3. Find "pieces" of an old one, and piece it in to repair what you have.
Has anyone had any luck using after-market weather strips that aren't car specific? Such as these: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/d...ap?ck=Search_N0475_-1_2611&pt=N0475&ppt=C1956
