The MSD module sounds good until you realize that it is designed for engines that already have an EDIS system installed. It does not contain a crank trigger, pickup sensor, etc. So you still have to make the determination on how you are going to trigger it.

$600 sounds pretty high for the Compu-tronix system until you consider the cost of either changing over to a 5.0 front dress on an older motor, the cost of the components plus a control box.

MSD controller is $572 by itself.

The Autosport Labs controller is about $200 if you include the rev limiter, MAP sensor input and the tuning cable. Plus the EDIS coil pack, timing disk, and EDIS controller module plus whatever machine work or front engine dress parts need to be changed plus still needing an oil pump drive stub to replace the existing distributor.

If you have a non-5.0 engine, the first unit pricing is not so bad.

I'm just gonna use the on-board soft rev limiter and MAP. Got the coil packs, EDIS 8 module, crank sensor, trigger wheel for $80. Got a 5.0 cam sensor for $23 that I'm removing the top part (sensor) from to fill up the distributor hole and drive the oil pump. I figured out an easy way to mount the trigger wheel to the front of my crank pulley. Gotta get new plug wires, the coil packs take different terminals than my HEI cap.

Guess I'll sell off my Mallory HyFire VIA digital CD box, MSD blaster coil, NIB Pertronix coil, NIB Pertrox I module, and Pertronix loaded distributor to help pay for my splurging. LOL

The Ford crank trigger is smaller in diameter than my crank pulley. The only place to mount it would be in front of the pulley. Easy enough to do, but if I need to replace the alt./water pump belt I'd have to remove the sensor and then realign. So I decided to try putting the teeth into the rear edge of my pulley since I don't use the rear portion anyway. Using my homemade "milling machine"...

Almost forgot the gutted cam sensor that will drive the oil pump. Need to make some kind of cover for the top of it.

the aftermarket dampener he has requires a spacer for proper factory pulley location. we took an reluctor wheel off of an explorer dampener and machined a disk with the pulley bolt pattern in it. then we machined the spacer down to compensate for the thickness of the reluctor disk.

i suspect your machined pulley will work just fine.
