on the Caltracs, the setting is:

"The specs call for 1/4 turn pre-load after the pivot bar just touches the leaf."

is there any...pre-load...on the ones You Guys used and if so ...how did you set it?

I thought the caltracs are set to 1/8" of space between the spring? That's what the instructions with mine said?

Mine said tighten until they touch the springs, while the weight is on the ground. Then crank it 1/4 turn tighter on each side to preload.

If you have 1/8" gap, those things will be noisy loud while driving around town as they slap against the springs.

Mine are already loud, when I hit big enough bumps to unload and then reload them.

I'm in the bottom hole, with an 1/8" air gap off the spring, and they work awesome. I don't notice any noise, all I hear is my engine.

Of the internet. And you know, the internet is never wrong!

Lots of guys make them from scratch. Who is going to stop you? Get the dimensions off another member, or get them off the internet.

you cant sell them. calvert racing has a patent on them i believe. i know they have sent cease and desist orders to people who have tired.

i dont think they should have a patent. their is an article from the 60s or 70s that shows how to make that design.

if you really want to try, you will need to research to find proof of the design existence before calvert started producing them.

The Calvert design will not cause any bind due to the non-fixed front bracket. the others with fixed mounting points front and rear will cause a bind due to the straight bar and spring wanting to travel in different archs. How much of a bind and whether it's significant enough to cause any problems is up for debate. But thats the difference in the designs right there
