Hi, My son has a 70 maverick with a 302, c4 auto with hooker headers,He now wants to change over to a t5.I have the pedal assy. and a t5 out of a 93 5.o v-8 fox body mustang. Now what else will i need to complete the swap?I would like to go with a cable clutch set up.I would like any help on this swap so we can keep the mav. on the road. Thanks Bob
What pedal assembly do you have, a Maverick standard transmission one or the Fox Mustang {'79-'93} one? If you have a Maverick clutch pedal and linkage you'll need the older style bellhousing and a transmission adapter {aftermarket} to bolt up the trans...A cable operated clutch you would need the later bellhousing as the clutch fork in these are designed to be pulled with the cable as opposed to pushed with a rod with the earlier style....You will also more than likely have to trim the transmission tunnel support above the transmission....Also the tranny crossmember will have to be modified {not that difficult} or the aftermarket makes one....Drive shaft should work the way it is
I have the maverick pedals. What clutch set up(I'm thinking the one from the mustang) disc, throw out, pressure, flywheel, and do you know what is the best cable to use? Thanks Bob
My son and I used the Mustang Steve clutch pedal adapter and the cable with all of the 5.0 transmission/bellhousing parts. We had to make our own transmission mount but everything else fit great.
make sure the fly wheel is the proper one for your motor. their are 2 different balances for these motors. the older ones are 28oz and the newer are 50oz. the change occurred around the early 80s. i would suggest going with an hydraulic clutch set up. it provides a much better feel and you dont have problems with the cheap cables, or the cable burning on the exhaust.
I would agree with the hydraulic clutch setup. The cable is very close to the headers and needs an eye kept on it. My next swap will use the hydraulic setup.
Does anyone know what bell housing these nubers are from EOTA-7505-FB. I'm hopeing it's for a T5 small block. Thanks Bob
Pretty sure it's a truck or van bellhousing which would not have come with a T5, that's not to say it wouldn't work but i believe the trucks come with a heavier 11" clutch...I'm sure someone else will chime in
