I have one in the car at all times. Its either wedged under the front edge of the passenger seat or in the rear floor board behind the driver seat. I need to get a mount for it but not sure where I would mount it. I have plane to redo my center console and may be incorporating a mount when I do.

At car shows and Autocross events, I keep it out in the open with my tool bag and lawn chair for all to see and use if necessary. Just seems like a good idea.

Yeah, kinda the same way. That's what insurance is for, to replace it. I'd hate to lose it, but if it goes, it goes.

and by then your car is done burning and just smoldering . left looking like a burnt piece of toast. hagerty isnt going to pay out any 30 40 or even 50k for one of these cars. if you figure a guy working for a body shop makes 20 an hour and spends 2000 man hours thats $40 thousand in labor alone. that doesnt even cover the other $20-$30k we spend on paint and parts then you go back to time to track down these parts and find a replacement car to start on. it adds up WAY faster than anyone ever thinks.
I know youre thinking two thousand hours who spends that much time on there car? plenty of us if not all of us by time the cars finished.
look at the brazilian maverick build and look at the awesome frame off job that guy is doing for his dad. the prep work for that yellow paint just by reading and looking at his pics you can tell hes prolly already in it a thousand hours in paint and prep

I dont see any insurance company "r eplacing " your car. they will cut you a nice check and make you think youre coming out good but thats if youre lucky just covers most of the parts to build another one. the way youll come out ahead is if there are parts left that are usable but cars that have cought fire are usually gonners

Do you know anybody who thinks they will get every last penny they invested in buying/building a car if or when they sell it?

I have always carried an extinguisher in the trunk. It fits in the well behind the drivers wheelwell and doesn't roll around.

After seeing a bad backfire that lit a Firebird's (appropriate name, eh?) air filter ablaze, I started thinking this was a good idea.

My Comet has burnt the paint off of the air cleaner lid a couple of times now, too. So, running a carb makes me want to have an extinguisher on hand. After all, it is just a highly-controlled fuel leak. :p

I guess some people are more attached to their cars than to reality...:yup:

I have enjoyed building mine, so if it were destroyed, I would build another one...

this is my..."Hobby car"...for me, the only way it will get done is...if it's destroyed or I die...either way it's done for me...:tiphat:

note: need a fire extinguisher for my truck...

and no one else would either...:rofl2:

"spends 2000 man hours"...(50- 40 hr. weeks)...in real time, how many years is that...most people struggle to put 5-6 hrs a week on their cars...
2000 hrs., should have started with a better car...

I must have missed that...frame off... job you are talking about...

and in closing...we work on these cars...Maverick/Comets...because we want to, not because we have to or planning to make money from them...:Handshake

My dad has $20,000 agreed value on his mostly stock Buick. I would think you could get that on a properly documented Maverick / Comet, but probably not any more than that...
