74 Brake Rotor Hiya Gene... I'm not sure of the size, but the Ford part number for the rotor was D4DZ-1102-A, and that crosses into a "Raybestos Brake" part number of 6042. Also, 74-77 called for the same part number. http://www.raybestos.com/wps/portal/raybestos/interchange Hope this helps.
As said, same rotor for all years, which is also the same rotor the Granada used. Now calipers, that is a different story. Ford used 3 different ones on the Maverick: All 1974 and 1975's made up to 10/1/74 = D4FZ-B120-A & 1A (R&L) 1975 Maverick from 10/1/74 to end of model year = D5FZ-2B120A & 1A (R&L) 1976-77 Maverick = D5DZ-2B120A & 1A (R&L) The 1974 had its own, 1 year spindle = D4DZ-3105-A & 6A (R&L) 1975-77 spindle = D5DZ-3105-A & 6A (R&L) Sorry, don't know about caliper brackets ...............
I wonder what the difference is and how to tell with the spindles.. I THINK I bought 74 spindles from a Mav in a wrecking yard many many years ago. I have them on my 73 now but have never ran it since they were installed. Is the part # stamped on it or is there a difference in how something is made on it?
The spindles should all be the same. Just the part numbers correspond to 1974 castings and 1975 castings. I've heard before that the '74 calipers were different from '75-'77, but have seen no evidence of this. Replacement part numbers for calipers from auto parts stores are the same for '74-'77.
I think the 74 doesn't use the support spring clip and retaining key. I will try and get a pic of my 74 tomorrow.
Intresting.. I am curious about all this because once I change to the MII suspension all this new stuff will have to go.. When I go to offer it I would like to be able to describe it to the best of my knowledge.. Also, if my rotors fit the MII spindles then maybe I don't need to purchase them with the kit..
I'm just going off the parts interchange manual - I have no idea what the actual difference is in the spindles or caliper brackets - I do know, all rotors are the same. Also, 1975 up to 10/1/74 are the same as all 1974's - was your donor '75 and early car?
I'll have to look it up, I have it written down somewhere. When I did the swap, I just ordered 74 rotors, calipers, and hoses, and it all worked. I kinda remember them having D5 number cast into them. I do know there is a difference in outer tie rods, since I had a "factory fresh" set, that didn't fit..
That would make sense if the only difference to the spindle from 74 to 75 & up is that outer tie rod hole size. That would allow swapping around without much problem. Like I said, I'm only reporting what the interchange guide shows for parts and model years.
I thought wrong. Looking at both 74 and 76 spindles, calipers, caliper bracket and the whole nine yards, I don't see any difference between the two years. I didn't remove my tie rod to see if it fits the later spindle...but I did try a'71 tie rod and it appears to fit.
