Where do you have it at? do you like it there or could there be a better spot?
i have one of the large 5" or so autometer tach's..i had it over in the middle of my dash the last 2 years and when i was up at the line on the track it was actually blocking me from seeing the tree i had to shift over to see around it...right now i have the new wires ran to the base of the pillar on the drivers side..i was hoping to mount it there if it fits, but if there is a better spot..maybe on top of the steering column? (wheel might be in the way of seeing?) id really like to know where you have yours at or where you would put it..because i don't want to move this again.
    thanks in advance

Mine is mounted on the steering column. I plan on moving it though because it blocks the gas gauge and turn signal flashers.

Just measured mine.. It's 5" and has the shift light on it as well.. So it is quite large.

Why do you need a BIG tach? A smaller tach will work. All you need is a shift light

Before installing a factory-appearing tach in my cluster, I had a small Autometer tach with a shift light that mounted with a bracket into the ashtray cavity, which kept it low. You could still open & close the ashtray and I ran the wiring throught the cigar lighter hole with a rubber grommet.

Before building the cluster, I had thought about mounting the tach down in the tray with a remote mini-shift light in the cigar lighter hole.

Cool, Frank. Is that a rocker switch under the shift light to turn it off?

probably his nitrous button for those extra long burnouts. :D

may I ask where.. and from what.. you got your gauges?

I'll probably just chop the hell out of my dash and customize it like everything else on the car will eventually become.. but I do like that clean stock look even if it were only to be used for a year or so.

    Thanks, Greg

In the way of my fuel gauge, but Here...

With that old smaller steering wheel, my hands would sometimes hit the button to control the shift light, but with my new-to-me classic larger sport wheel, no problems!

Quick Tip... A lot of guys use larger worm-drive clamps (radiator hose type) to secure a tach to the steering column. If you don't want the clamp being as obvious, simply go get some heat-shrink tubing, cut it to the required length, and slide it over the clamp and heat it. It makes the clamp a lot less noticeable, and comes in several different colors. (y)
