Has anyone swap a C4 to a 5 speed. How hard is it? Dark Horse Performace has kits to swap early Mustangs to 5 speeds. Are the frame or cross members the same as Mustangs. Please help, thanks

The crossmembers are not the same and will not work without modification. It would be easier to modify the one you got. The hardest thing to find will be clutch linkage. If you got the bucks, you can go with a hydraulic set up. The Mustang kits will work here. If you have good fabrication skills, you might be able to modify the clutch pedal for a cable set up.Then all you need is a clutch pedal set up. After that, Its the standard stuff like bellhousing, flywheel, and clutch parts.

Blown76Mav.....I`m trying your technique as we speak....just happened to have a Fox-Body pedal assembly laying around.......and an autmatic Maverick assembly that came with the car extra..........I took the manual pedals out of the car before I started for comparism sake.So far I got all the pieces needed off the Mustang setup, the tube and all, just got back on here to print out your directions to help me with the rest.

Well I guess I wasted $10 on Ebay......I just finished the pedal setup. It only took a couple hours to do,its great to have everything on hand to do it.I had to shorten the clutch pedal about one inch and weld the pad back into place.Tack welded the tube into place too.I used a hole saw to cut the hole.Actually,I used a couple smaller bits, upto a 1/2" bit at first and then realized I didn`t have a 3/4" bit needed to drill the hole big enough......so I thought I screwed myself....but I noticed that the only difference between the stock auto and manual setups was the pin that holds the pedals in,I switched them, and was able to use the manual setup/brake pedal with the fox-body clutch pedal so I didn`t have to modify the brake pedal.I should have used the pad off of the Maverick clutch pedal so it`d look more stock, but I can still change it if I want too.

But anyways, thanks Blown76 for the directions,it worked great!!! Now that I know how to do this....and I`m not working...hmmmm.....anyone else need a setup????

I'm still looking for parts before I can tackle this. This don't seem to be as bad as I thought.

Would anything be any different for using a Tremec from Ford Racing? When the time comes, I don't think a stock mustang will hold up for me. It might, but I'd rather only do the whole "buying/installing a tranny" thing once, if you know what I mean. Thanks ya'll!! Preston

The T5 & one of the Tremec's are alike for the most part but I can't remember witch one. The one that comes in the 88-93 Mustang is the one that handles more torque. I thought all of them could be built up. But not sure.

I see where you are coming from. The only reason I was asking is that the motor I am building will (hopefully) be putting out a bit over 600 hp. (This is undershooting it) It will NOT be a daily driver, only a show/strip car. Since it won't be driven all that often, it won't be stressed on a regular basis. But I will say that when I do drive it, it will be severely tested. I drive hard, so I will try to build accordingly. That's why I was thinking of the Tremec. No real other reason other than they are supposedly stronger. I know the T-5 will handle a lot of power (as is apparent with your car ;) ) but I just feel like a Tremec would provide me with a little more peace of mind. :D Ya'll take care, Preston

I dont even remember this thread. Its been 2 years & I just now have most of the parts. Time sure goes fast. What is a cross tube? Do I use the mustang break pedel? Its the same size as the clutch pedal or do I keep the stock maverick pedal?
