I just checked my wire because I just changed the .023 out for heavier wire to do some frame work and I am using .030 for steel not .035 like I first thought :)

I just went out and checked my tank and wire size. I'm down to 1200psi and the wire is .035. I've got some .024 on a new roll but I need to get some tips..............all I have are .035. Guess a trip to the welding store is in order this afternoon.
    Thanks

John it's like night and day difference with the smaller gauge wire. I'd blow thru the old sheetmetal with my miller and .030 but with .023 it actually looks like a weld.

Reinstalled the 9" 4.10:1 geared Trac Loc center section, axles and wheels/tires in the Boss 302 housing in my Maverick. The wheels/tires are moved out just a bit from the factory 8" rear.

Same old, same old.. Clutch started slipping last weekend if I get on it too hard while taking off from a light. Also noticed the car is leaving a bigger oil slick then usual after it's been parked for a few hours. Looked up under it and it's dripping out of the bell housing, rear main has started leaking... It's turning my collection of road grime under the car into a black gooey substance... :outtahere: Also notice my rear axle vent tube tore loose from the rearend. Guess that piece of hose finally gave up after 41 years and well over 400k.

Just going easy on it and hoping the clutch holds out for a bit longer..

You are 100% correct. I had an old spool of .024 solid wire laying around and am using it............what a difference..........I can actually weld the thin sheet metal.
Still have some cutting and re-shaping to do, but I'm sure I can make it work.
    Thanks!

Hey you welders I found something that drove me nuts. If you have .023 wire you have to to have the right size tip or your bead will jump from good to bad. I had .023 and a .030 tip and then I read an article that said the current flows from the tip to the wire and if your tip is too big you can get an arc there and it will show up in your weld.
