It was a first for me and a first for the mav.
Went to an 1/8 mile track in Kaleva, MI. Drove the car there 65 miles one way. Just got there in time before they closed the staging lanes for the first time trial. First pass was not good, tires hooked better than i though they would. Bogged the engine bad off the line.

    pass #1 Reaction time .444 60ft 2.852 E.T. 11.666 @ 69.968 (time trial)
    pass #2 Reaction time .360 60ft 2.326 E.T. 9.764 @ 74.850 (time trial)
    pass #3 Reaction time .182 60ft 2.352 E.T. 9.798 @ 74.674 (dial 9.55 lose)
    pass #4 Reaction time -.098 60ft 2.324 E.T. 9.813 @ 73.233 (dial 9.75 red light lose)

Well the car is consistant! You will be able to chip away at the ET's with more experience. A couple things holding you back are the 3.0 gears and that performer 289 intake. And what's up with the 5.315 rods? What pistons did you use? Did you get bit by the drag racing bug???

went in open minded, wasn't worried about the car as its a solid driver. Being that it was my first time, I was more concerned about the driver. lol

I need to find some 3.55 or 3.80 gears. I was just shifting into 3 at the finish line. As for the long rod in a 289. I just wanted to do something different. To make it work I used Speed pro h860cp.
I will be back to the track this weekend.

Yeah a set of 3.89 gears would really help, then put in a t5 and ditch the 4spd so you can hit the Interstate and keep your RPMs down.

What RPM were you launching at???

Any idea if that Top Loader is a close or wide ratio???

It's a wide ratio top loader.
launching at any rpm without letting the clutch till the car started to move resulted in slight tire spin till it hooked then it would fall on its face, resulting in a 3 sec. 60ft.

It started to rain just as we got to the track. once the rain stopped about 30 min. they started to dry the track.
got about 9 t/t runs in. car was slower than last week running 10.02-10.20 at 71-72 mph. I'm still a little slow of the tree leaving just as the 3rd yellow lights, was getting .4** reaction times. last couple t/t passes I deep staged and got it down under .180 had a best of .078
made it to the 4th round and took a nap at the tree , ran 10.22 on my 10.20 dial with a reaction time of .312
all in all had lots of fun for $25.

how hard is it to stuff a 390FE in to a maverick?:burnout:

    My question would be why?
The old rule of thumb is that for every 100lbs you take out of a car in the 1/4 mile you will loose 0.10 sec at the traps and conversely the more weight you add the slower you will go. This all depends on HP/TQ of course.........................but just being general you want to lose weight.

Your 302 is 29" Long 24" Wide and 28" High w/o carb weight is 460lbs

    351w is 29" Long 25" Wide and 29" High w/o carb weight is 525lbs

    390 is 32" Long 27" Wide and 29" High w/o carb weight is 625lbs

If you go with about any other motor than the 302 in your Maverick you will end up cutting the spring towers out/notching them or doing away with them entirely.
Plus you can make more HP with a 302(331/347), 351w than you ever can with a 390..........and spend less money...................IMHO

The 390 is going back in the Galaxie
I will more than likely just freshen up the 289 that is already in the Maverick this winter.
