Hello to all; This is my first post so please be gentle. I came across this forum while searching the net. for parts, and information on a restoration project I should have started twenty years ago. I have a 1970 Maverick that was my daily driver until I parked it in july of 1991. It has been sitting in my woods, (for the most part) ever since. I finally pulled it out with the intention of doing a full blown restoration. It now sits in my shop with hood, driver door, and left front fender removed. The next step is engine and tranny removal, hopefully tomorrow. I have seen on this, and other sites that a "rotissere" would be of great help. I am more than capable of fabricating this, but I would like to know where is the best place to mount it to the car, after I remove everything from the body? I see a few pics. on here, but not very clearly. I have to say, I have never restored a vehicle before, but I have restored quite a few antique firearms and a couple of boats. I'm sure I will be asking alot of foolish questions on this forum concerning my project, as I am not a gear head, but I have always been told, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. I also have two other doner cars to play with, one is another 1970 Maverick with no engine, and a 1974, four door complete. I plan on salvaging parts from these two for my original car. Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated and encouraged. I have a loooooooong way to go! Thanks in advance.
from a fellow 70 owner in Northeast Pennsylvania Click on "my images" under my avatar and I think I have a few photos of my roll over stands that I made out of ( 2 ) 1,000 pound engine stands that I bought from Harbor Freight. If not let me know and I'll send you some pictures. I chose the wrong spot to pivot from and the shell became top heavy at the last point of the roll over. I still have to roll it over again and I have a full cage in it now so I have to build an adaptor brackets to change the pivot location. I'll help you out in any way that I can
from Washington State! I have seen rotisseries that use both front and rear bumper attaching points as mount locations.
The bumper mount holes were the mounting points that I used but kept that same level for the pivot head of the engine stands. That pivot point should have been more up towards the center of the radiator opening and then up that same distance in the back of the car instead of at the frame rails. Before I turn it over again, I'm going to make up a set of 3/8 steel plates with some long adjusting slots so I have some room for correction
Thanks Guys; I appreciate your help. I found a website that had free downloadable plans, so I printed them out. Looks like a pretty easy build. Just need to acquire materials. I've taken lots of before pics. and I will try in the near future to post some of my progress.
Do you have a link to the website? Maybe it will give me some idea on how to make my adjustable bracket
Rotisserie plans I don't know how to link a website, but here is the web address and e-mail: Email: redwingsteelworks@gmail.com Website: http://redwingsteelworksplans.com Phone: 612-584-9353 They also have plans for a body lift and roller. I hope this helps.
