My oldest son is a merchandiser for a soft drink company.......he doesn't deliver the soda, he goes to the stores and stocks the products from the pallets in the storerooms to the shelves. His rooute covers multiple stores over three counties, and when his supervisor wanted him to expand his route yet again, he offered my son a company car with a gas card to use for the job.

This wasn't the usual practice of this company, so they had to go looking for a car to let him use, and he's anxiously been waitiing to see what his "work ride" was going to be.

Well, this morning, while at work in one of the stores, he gets a call from his supervisor, telling him they got him a car, and they've parked it at one of the stores on his route for him to pick up later.

He says "Cool, what kind of car is it?" and his boss tells him "We got you a Maverick". This kind of shocked my son, he wasn't exactly expecting an old car, so naturally his reply was "A Ford Maverick??", to which his boss said, "Yeah, a real nice one"..........my son hesitated a moment, then said "Cool, it'll be easy to spot in the parking lot when I pick it up"

Now his boss was a little shocked, and quickly added "Nahh, just messing with you.....we got you a Ford Focus......I'm surprised you didn't freak out when you heard Maverick". My son then explained that a Maverick was his dad's first car, and that he owns a couple he's fixing up, and he (my son) thinks they're pretty cool. Turns out his boss used to own one and had a soft spot for them too, hence his reference for the prank.

After my son told me the story of his company car, he added, "You know, I was actually a little disappointed when I realized he was joking".

    That's my boy!

lol.. I'd be dissapointed too due to "no character whatsoever".. but at least the Focus won't be breaking down on him as much. The pro's and con's of life, I guess.

I really like Mavericks and have had two, but I also have a soft spot for a Ford Focus, and the new ones look really nice, especially the SVT's.
I bought a new 09 and after a few mods I would take on some of the cousin foreign cars and carve corners the best of them and usually come out on top. Fun to drive and got 35mpg!

I agree, outside the US you guys have some nice looking pocket rockets.
Here is a picture of the new ST, with 252hp......should be a fun ride.

Frankly, I'd have rather he got a Maverick. The Focus they got for him is an '06, used as a "company car" for another merchandiser from another soda Co.

Rode hard and put up wet. It seems to ride and drive decent, but it's got some scrapes, dings and a few missing pieces of trim, the interior wasn't cleaned and the trunk was full of some old clothes, munchie trash, and three 24 count pallets of some weird drink called "Hog Wash".

What bothers me is the air bag light is on and the tires are nearly done.....two things I'm going to tell him to INSIST get fixed and replaced.

Other than that, a serious detailing would help most.

The local Pepsi guy drives a brand new Chevy Colorado.

I told my son, maybe he should put the company logo on the doors of his beater and it would embarrass them enough to get him a newer/nicer ride.
