I just got the maverick home from muffler guy last night. I asked for the headers to be NOT welded to the rest of the exhaust setup, so that I can take things off when working on the car. I haven't looked real close, but it appears that he welded it all up.

What are easy ways to cut the headers off the other pipes and set them up so that they can be attached/detached separately from the rest of the exhaust?

I take it they don't have unboltable collectors?

It will be custom what ever you do lol..
I am planning to have my exhaust guy make me some slip fit connectors and use clamps. I will see if he can make it where they slip over each end about two inches and have about another two inches that I can slice into about 4 or six tangs where the clamps will go. Just an idea anyway. Mine are all welded right now.

Nope. Shorty headers that I converted into a long tube one-piece a-la 71gold. I asked that he do some sort of slip fit or something but over the three days he had my car, and all of his personal distractions, he forgot and welded them solid.

It is now dumping at the axle with X-pipe and having all of that as one piece is going to be a major hassle next time I need to drop the transmission or driveshaft.

Gene, that is sorta what I was thinking...buy a 2-1/4 to 2-1/4 connector for each side, cut about 1" down on four places on one end, weld the other end onto the exhaust and clamp the cut end onto the header.

    Is that the easiest method?

It is going to be a major hassle cutting it, since it is all installed on the car as one piece...

I had collector plates put on the mufflers and header tubes to exhaust pipe...

I don't mind the flanges, as long as they are not the lowest hanging part..

Gene/Scooper, you should have no problem installing plates. cut the pipe, slide two plates on...bolt them together w/gasket. center the plates w/cut and weld...:thumbs2:

I would suggest getting 4 collectors from Summit and weld them somewhere in line or, as Frank suggested, at the front of the mufflers :yup:

The guy did a really good job of tucking the exhaust way up against the floor so you cannot see it from the profile. I want to keep it low profile like that. If I did flanges I would rotate them so the point is at the top.

I need to get out in the garage and take another look.
