I have not had any machine shop work done in years. I am needing to have a 200 CI head done up with new valves and springs and all the blah blah blah.. What can I expect to spend. No shortcuts, the works. Thanks Dan
Just a smidge south of the cost of getting 2 V-8 heads done. I can't tell you current prices because it's been a while since I had either done, but I do remember that it was a little less than 2 V-8 heads.
The last set of V8 heads I had done were $225 for both, 3 angle valve job, new guides, surface planed, re-assembled with new seals & springs (I supplied the springs).
Funny you should ask. Mine was just done and I reinstalled last week. I delivered the head minus the rocker assembly to the shop and had the following done: Hot tank & Magnaflux Replace valves (10), grind remaining two. Press out valve guides and replace with new. (this one's been in to see the doc before.) Grind seats Resurface to flat Lap valves New seals & retainers Clean, paint & reassemble valves with appropriate spring shims. Helicoil installed in one E manifold bolt hole. New freeze plugs (almost forgot!) $275 through Best Auto in Utica Mi. Amazing how much nicer it runs. The sixes really are satisfying when they're running smoothly. Hope this helps.
Wantamav,,, you da man!!!! I have been out trying to persaude the exhaust manifold to come off, have 3 bolts that need persuaded by the torch, but I have to move a car and a motor to get to it, tomorrow. Dan
